The Hitachi Magic Wand is brilliant for an external vibe. It's a little loud, but it plugs in so no inconvenient dying out right before the main event, and my first one lasted 20 years -- it's sturdy. Two speeds, and you'll never go back.

I got a slender little pink one from Ann Summers - I can't find it on their website now (and besides, I am at home on the laptop and my dad is asleep in the armchair IN THIS VERY ROOM OMG), but it's worth going into a shop if you have one local to you. You get a better impression of size and level of intimidating-ness (so not a word) in person.
