Gah. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I never thought I was the greatest of writers, but now it seems like everything I touch goes wrong. Nothing sounds like it's intended to. Blocked.

So what advice have you got? How can I improve what I'm doing? How do I get past this bigfatwritersblock that's sitting in front of me?

Help. Please?

Have you ever tried automatic writing? Just grab a pen (or keyboard) and write the first thing that comes to you mind, even if it's utter nonsense. Set a timer for about 20-30 minuets and keep writing till it goes off.

ygrane's automatic writing suggestion is a really good one. Another possibility is to start a hopelessly self-indulgent story where all of it is gratuitous, you don't worry about logic or anything difficult whatsoever, and working on that whenever you get stuck. I, ah, have such a story I use for exactly that purpose.

Actually, one of the things that works best for me is to sit and write about how much I don't want to write, and I hate it, and it sucks. After awhile, it kind of breaks through into actual writing instead of random swear words and whining.

One of the things that works best for me is taking something that happened to me in real life and making it fandom related. Even boring stuff, like my car is making this weird noise, can easily translate into "Sirius! Why is the motorbike going 'chicka brm brm chicka brm brm'?"
