I'm just doing the ten favourite fictional characters part, because I really don't want to marry *anyone*. =)

In no particular order...

Remus Lupin

Because he's a good person. He's kind, he tries to make people feel better about themselves, he's a good teacher (and that's a hard thing to be), he's a werewolf, and I always like that in a man... And when he was a teenager, he was very like me as a teenager. Scared of rejection, willing to forgive your friends too much, scared to speak up. Not feeling like you're enough of the group to risk it. [I am projecting a little, here. Can you tell?] I hope JKR continues to use him wisely. If she doesn't, I nominate [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge or [livejournal.com profile] casira to take over. *g*

Beatrice

I think she's brilliant. She has a fantastic wit, and she's very intelligent, and just... the speed of the retorts between her and Benedick (when played well) are amazing. Excellent character.

Oz

He is cool. It's something that he doesn't have to work at, it's just his default state. One of the things that I like most about him is that he's clearly very intelligent, but he doesn't have to prove that to anyone. I have known many people who have tried to impress or intimidate me with their knowledge, and Oz doesn't have to do that. He just is. He's a werewolf, again, which is good. And when he loves someone, he gives himself wholeheartedly. You can believe him. The way he looks is just a bonus.

Gainel

At least... I *think* that was his name. It was a short series of books by Tamora Pearce, and I read them when I was about 14. This guy left a lasting impression- probably my first big literary crush. He is the god of dreams in the universe created in the books. He communicates with other gods using telepathy, and can't speak to mortals unless it's in a dream. I liked that he wasn't all-powerful in that respect. He just seemed like the kind of god I'd want to worship. Inspired a lot of my fantasy reading.

Nanny Ogg

I have to say that I wanted to include pretty much the entire Discworld here. It was so difficult cutting down to one character... Too difficult, in fact. So I have one male and one female character. I was torn, as I also wanted to include Agnes Nitt, Susan Sto-Helit, and Sybil Ramkin... I identify with those characters a lot. Whereas Nanny Ogg is just a brilliant character. She has such a love of life, and she doesn't let difficulty get her down. She copes with things, but in a far more cheerful way than, say, Susan. Susan sees that she has to do things, has to be the sensible one- she's not happy about it, but she does it. Whereas Nanny Ogg rolls up her sleeves and gets stuck in, so long as there's a beer at the end of it. And she's so delightfully rude. She'd be a slasher, definitely. =)

Sam Vimes

Also wanted Rincewind, Vetinari, Death... But Sam is just amazing. The development of his character through the books has been completely spot on. I like him because he's very human. He has a terrible temper, and he's not amazingly intelligent... but he's a policeman down to the ground. There's nothing else he could ever be. He works too hard, and takes too much on himself, and his interaction with Vetinari is priceless. He's gonna be a good dad.

Lucifer

He's the devil. What could be cooler? He's a magnificent bastard, unapologetically out for himself. He's incredibly intelligent, and cunning, and pretty heartless. I've only got books one and two so far, so I'm looking forward to getting my loan and the next two installments.

Sam

She's just a good character. She seems a little afraid of the world, of what the world can do to her, hold against her, but at the same time she can hold her head up and be herself. And her list of beliefs is one of my favourite moments in the whole book.

Crowley

"An angel who didn't so much fall, as saunter vaguely downwards". Anyone introduced with a line like that is going to be good. Crowley is funny, and he's a demon, which (like werewolves) is pretty much always good. He reminds me of the Marquis de Carabas (who I very nearly included), but strangely he seems more human, more fallible than the Marquis. And fallibility, humanity, reality is something I always want in my characters. Yes, reality. Even if he *is* a demon.

Tim

I think this has only ever been shown in Britain, but it's essentially a comedy sitcom which has some exceedingly surreal moments to it. Tim is one of the main characters, a graphic artist who is amazingly geeky and travels by skateboard. It's difficult to explain the brilliance of Spaced... it's endlessly quotable. And Simon Pegg is pretty damned shaggable, too. And it has endless Mr Scruff on the soundtrack, which is always good. *g* If you possibly *can*, I would advise you to check this out.

And that's it. Pretty much off the top of my head, so I might have changed my mind by tomorrow.

Oh, and any books you can reccomend me? I'm in a bit of a rut... admittedly, it's a great rut, but I think I should read something else for a change. =)

I've changed my favourite Discworld character so many times over the years, and Sam is definitely it at the moment.

And I agree with you--Nanny would *so* be a slasher! *amused*

Try 'Ender's Game' by Orson Scott Card and 'Artemis Fowl' by Eoin Colfer.
