nny: (away team)

I'm reading through the entries on the [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match this time around, and the quality of writing is incredible. It's making me kinda ashamed of my humble entry, seriously.

[livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion has made up a table of the entries here for easy access, and I'd really recommend wading through them. I'd recommend wading through them now, actually, because the authors will be revealed next Wednesday so now is the time to take a look before you automatically judge them ahead of time. Because when you see names like [livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion, [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse and [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan, obviously you expect a certain level of quality. So those're the fics you head for, and maybe neglect some usernames that might be less familiar to you. This is what an anon fest is for, and it makes me sad to see the low numbers of comments on some truly fantastic fic.

Those of you that have read through the fics, post your recs! Tell people what was awesome, why you enjoyed it, what you think they should read through. I'm certainly gonna do that when I'm done reading them all. And I promise to try not to be too hideously biased.

AWAY TEAM FOR THE WIN!

Ah, yes. Anon fests. I love the idea, still, but the results leave to be desired: Even my PG-rated femslash and het stories got more feedback, and this was Sheppard/McKay, adult-rated, and rather complex.

Well, I guess one interpretation is that I AM a brand name of sorts? & ;-) Not like the above authors, of course, but hey.

I didn't mean anything by leaving you off, love, I just haven't known you so long and am less familiar with your writing. [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse I've known since I was in dS fandom, Icarus through Harry Potter and [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan I beta for and therefore naturally read most of what she does.

:)

I don't see myself as a 'brand name' at all - I kind of assume that no one remembers my name between one story and the next and that every story must prove itself in isolation, which was why I was so surprised when people recognised my name at Meet the Hewletts. XD

Yeah. Ditto. :D

Still, my name in a row with those two is thrilling beyond belief. *bounces*

*g* My whining wasn't at all about you or this post -- my writing definitely isn't as popular as other writers' works in fandom. And that's okay; I'm a dabbler. & :-)

It's just that I tend to get at least a certain level of fannish response for stories beyond drabble-length, so I was vaguely vexed when that didn't happen in an anonymous ficathon...although, as implied, there are various possible reasons for that, not just people reading fiction bearing my name a little more often than fiction by new or unknown authors.

And for what that's worth, I definitely took note of your writing & your name. (I don't friend for fiction alone, of course; I friend for people who are talented and also share their life in ways that intrigue me.)
