How do you like to read?

I ask because I'm re-reading the first three Temeraire books, and I've discovered that the way I like to read best is with my legs folded, only my back is on the bed and my legs are folded up the wall and there's a pillow under my ass and a pillow and a stuffed panda under my head. So comfy!

I'm gonna go fold myself into position again and start Black Powder War. How 'bout you?

Hunched up on the tube in the least comfortable position ever, or on the toilet with my feet braced against the radiator and the bath. COMFORT IS FOR GIRLS.

... oh wait.

Weirdly, for me it depends on the book! Some are curl-up-in-bed books, and some are sitting-with-my-back-propped-against-a-tree books, and some are sitting-on-the-sofa-crosslegged books. :)

Definitely with my legs up against the wall or folded over the back of the sofa or just generally higher than the rest of me.

I just cannot stay in a single position. I roll around a lot. So I'll be on my stomach, then I'll lie on my back with my legs going straight up the wall, then sit up straight against my wall, eventually sliding down to a slouch, then I'll lie on my back half off the bed, and then on my stomach half off the bed (I quite like both those positions but I can't stay in them a long time or the blood rushes to my head and gives me a headache)... I feel annoyingly restricted by living in a tiny dorm room while I'm in Japan, because back home I'd roll all over the carpet and armchairs and couches as well. I'm stuck with just a bed here, it's annoying. XD

That sounds like a pretty comfortable position. ^_^

If I'm on a couch, I like to lie on my side with my legs in this weird semi-pretzel position -- right leg bent with foot on floor, left leg bent upwards with left foot propped against the side of my right knee. (It's hard to explain.) And a large pillow is a must.

It depends on the book for me, too! :) So, usually, I start out just sitting up with a bunch of pillows propped round for the first chapter or so, 'til I get a feel for the book (unless we are already intimately acquainted from numerous readings, of course), before I sprawl, curl, sit, fold, or floof accordingly.

Or sometimes, I just sprawl on the floor wherever there's a patch of sunlight, which rarely coincides with any furniture. Sunlight-sprawled reading is especially delicious at this time of year, when it's nippy and cold outside, but my patch of sunlight is nice and warm. :)

I always end up shifting positions, even if it's the most comfy ever. Dunno why...

In the morning when I do not have to be anywhere, flopped out on my stomach under my covers, with the book resting on the pillow, constantly wiggling to get the best light.

The rest of the time, hunched over a diner table with something tasty and the book open next to it! This is a pleasure I do not allow myself very often because I have food at home and eating-out indulgences should be for with-people, but I love doing it.

Lying down with a pillow behind my head and as stretched out as possible, no matter where I am. This makes reading on airplanes really annoying for the person behind me but fuck that: it's MY book.

I like to read in my Big Comfy Chair, with my legs tucked up and to the right (think Ariel the Little Mermaid, on that rock) and my left elbow leaning on the chair arm (which now has a phenomenal permanent dent). With tea on the arm of the sofa to my immediate left.

Occasionally, to save my hips, I switch to cross-legged, everything else unchanged.

I no longer own the Really Big Comfy Chair, but when I did, I read in it sideways -- legs over the right arm, back against the left arm.

Haha, tiny dorm rooms are restricting all right! I remember my own tiny dorm room (not, alas, in Japan); I used to read in my swivelling desk chair, with my feet in the bottom or middle drawer on the left. :D It was very comfy!
