Er, yes, aren't elementary language classes full of weird vocabulary? Sometimes it gets to the point where you find yourself wondering about what sort of situation you could possibly ever be in to warrant such strange phrases.

Sounds like the dialogue I found in an old German textbook that went something like this when it was translated:

"Horrible weather today, isn't it?"
"Oh yes."
"Do you think it'll rain again tomorrow?"
"Certainly."
"Well, that's stupid."
"Why?"
"My umbrella is broken."

Or, better:

"No coffee for me. It gives me indigestion." *snorts*
