I should write this when I'm sober, because, let's face it, I'm not. And I make no guarantees I'll make sense. But I'll try my damndest. =)

Since the motto of the People's Republic of Treacle Mine Road is "Truth, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love and a Hard Boiled Egg", I was wondering why Vimes asks for a hard boiled egg in the book.

Does he do it to be in keeping with history?

Does he do it because he wants a hard boiled egg?

Because John Keel asked for a hard boiled egg and he identifies with John Keel?

Because he wants history to stay as near he remembers it as possible?

Because he has been thinking about what happened all day and therefore it's at the front of his mind?

There were more options, but I am drunk and canna remember. =)
