Why I've been a little scarce
Apr. 16th, 2009 10:31 amThis Easter holiday's been kind of a crazy one - I spent a few days at
liz666's house, which was lovely, and then my little sister came to stay for five days as soon as I got back from that, and then a day after she left I had a
midnight_violet. Lots of people, and it was grand to see them all, but OMG I am so not a social person by inclination.
See, the problem is that my flat is tiny. Seriously, very very small. Both the bedrooms are of decent size, but the kitchen and bathroom are both tiny and cramped, and there is no sitting room. Essentially, my room is the sitting room, which can feel very much like I'm a guest at times. And when there are people sleeping on my floor - or when I'm sleeping on the floor with a guest in my bed, of course - there is nowhere else to go. I can't go and sit in the garden because the access is through Smaller's room, there's no room even to sit on the floor in the kitchen... it's kind of hellish. Especially because I generally sleep a lot less than other people; it's quite unbelievably claustrophobic when there's someone asleep on your floor and you can't even turn on the light to read - because that'd wake 'em up, and be rude and all. Yesterday I got frustrated enough to drag a pair of jeans and a hoodie on over my pyjamas and trundle to the park at about 7am, sitting by the waterfall and reading Temeraire in the cold and light rain, grinning at all the dog walkers who were giving me sidelong looks. Kept sneezing, yesterday, but it was worth it for the suppression of violent impulses.
Deep breaths now I'm alone, which is helping some, but I could totally use a neck-rub to bring my shoulders down from ear level. Adding to the stress, of course, is all the work I have to do before I get back to work, but I'm not going to start that just yet. Need a little relaxation, a little randomness, a little remote-controlled car slash. I'll be fine in a minute. ;)
