Please to help? The memory stick with all my work on, literally an entire term's worth of work, is now not working. Every time I try to open the file through my computer or windows explorer it comes up as f:/ access denied. Is there a way of getting around this? Please tell me there's a way of getting around this. 'cos I have a sneaking feeling that I forgot to copy the folders to my work laptop, and I know I hadn't gotten around to copying them onto this computer yet.

If I can't get it all back... devastated ain't even the word.

ETA: Salvaged oh thank fuck \o/!!!

Does it have a hold or lock button on the side? I use a cheepo 1GB Mp3 player as my memory stick, and if the hold button gets knocked it won't open up.

If you have access to a Mac anywhere, they're often more forgiving of bad sectors, etc.; you usually can at least mount the thing and get the files off it.

If that doesn't work, a lot of drive/stick manufacturers offer a pay-for recovery service. It'll cost a bit, but if the files are that important, it's worth it...

Sacrifice to the ghost of Alan Turing?

Have you tried it on a different computer?

Can up open up an application (eg word) and then use the file: open command from word?

I've got the heebie jeebies on your behalf.

Unless the drive's been actually physically crushed it ought to be possible to recover the files somehow, although depending on how difficult it is it might cost a fair bit... you could try taking it back to where you bought it and asking if they can recommend any sort of computer repair shop to get it fixed? Fingers crossed for you ):

Oh if ooooooonly. I so want a Mac. XD

Managing to salvage files through opening in apps, so it's gonna take a while but it should be fine. Thanks for the advice, though, sweet.
