Just realised that I love both Happy Feet and The Birdcage but they make me uncomfortable for much the same reasons. Is that weird?

The fact that there is no middle ground in getting two disparate groups to understand and bear each other. One or other of the groups must change their behaviour entirely in order to fit in with the other group; while I agree that received notions have to be challenged in order to understand another perspective, I don't think that making someone supremely uncomfortable and change their life to fit is good either. It's essentially like saying that the only way gay and straight people can live together harmoniously is to have the gays live as straight or the straight live as gay... and just because the dynamic is flipped in favour of the outsider doesn't make it a positive change, y'know?

I... have no idea if that makes sense. XD
