In my non-viddish and inept way, vaguely - I was going to say plotting but that's not it at all, I'm more imagining a Doctor/Master vid to Drumming Song (http://www.mediafire.com/?2z2mo3ezm3n) by Florence + The Machine. It's not a pairing I've ever really thought about much, I'm not massively into the fandom even though I do enjoy the show; I've noticed their slashiness in passing I guess. I love that songs can do that, can become absolutely perfect for a pairing or character and make you think differently about them even if you've never really considered them before. I wish I had the technical/artistic capacity to make vids; in the meantime I drool over other people's, although not nearly enough of them.

Canon that makes me smile... so very many, seriously. You know lim's vid, Us? There was a moment in that where Fraser and Kowalski were stuck in a crevasse, and the handkerchief they fired up - to mark their location - was a bright and violent red, in contrast to everything else at that moment. And that kind of symbolised (I totally have a point here, honest) the kind of things that make me smile in canon. The little things, moments and looks and touches and in-jokes that probably mean way more to me than to anyone else because they resonate. So it's those things in a million different canons. Every canon I get bouncy about makes me smile; at the moment I'm focusing mostly on NCIS and Merlin, I guess, but the ones that stick with me most are due South, Good Omens and SG:A, and I can't see myself leaving them behind.

At the moment what's making me squee most though, because I'm a MASSIVE DORK, is not actually fandom at all. Everything's on hiatus, and I'm getting distracted with buying new yarn for knitting projects and reading The Language Instinct by Steven Pinker, because no matter how much I insist that I'm not academic by nature there is something about linguistics, and cognitive science in relation to it, that makes me so dorkily excited. However, if you do want something fandomy, episode 5x08 of SPN made me bounce and flail and have a small heart attack at the awesome. XD

And Tony finds it hot, really hot, until the first time they're making out in Tim's bed and things are getting hot and heavy and Tim says, "I really want to fuck you." And Tony says, "HAH yeah right, no way in a million years are you sticking your bar-belled dick in my ass, Probie."

"Yeah, well, it isn't exactly something y-you can use on a... a daily basis," Tony says, even though he's not even in the *room* anymore. His brain is floating up in the stratosphere somewhere, and he fists his cock until Tim slaps his hand away and slips his mouth over him.

After that it all becomes a blur -- the give and take pleasure of Tim's fingers and his mouth, and Tony almost forgets, even when Tim gives him a fourth finger, even when he hears the snap of latex and Tim is slipping his fingers out and Tony plants a foot on Tim's chest.

"Tony," Tim says, in his patiently-talking-to-idiots voice, and nudges Tony's foot up onto his shoulder. "You trust me, don't you?"

"Sure, I trust you, but you're not..." and Tony's line of thought slips away for a minute, because that's Tim's cock brushing his hole and... and... "Uh."

"Trust me when I say I've done this before, and it's good, for everyone involved," Tim murmurs, and doesn't at all kiss Tony's ankle, and pushes ininin.


...Later, after Tony wakes up from his nap (his *nap* goddammit, because DiNozzo's don't faint after sex, even after sex with ridiculously hot computer geeks), Tim grins up at him and says, "Abby always said you'd be an excellent royal consort."

:D OMG, I have an entire playlist of songs that go to vids-in-my-head. I love doing that; I love hearing a song and realizing that, f'rexample, the perfect Season 1 John Sheppard song is Eminem's My Dad's Gone Crazy.

Drumming Song is very cool, although I don't know much about Doctor Who. I, um, saw the Handlebars video? And that seems like it would go well with the Drumming Song thing.

Oooooh, The Language Instinct. I really like Pinker's How The Mind Works but for some reason have not read The Language Instinct. I should get on that--anthro is so fascinating.

If there's one video I really want to make, it's to Soon This Space Will Be Too Small (http://www.mediafire.com/?mzzd2mdymoj), and I can't even decide on the structure or theme of it. I just know it's about Atlantis, and parts of it are very concrete in my head. It's weird, because my brain is a massively verbal place and pictures are the exception rather than the rule; possibly vidding would be good for mental development...

The basic idea in Doctor Who is that the Master is crazypants, and looked into a ... time vortex rift thing(?) when he was a child, which left him with a drumming in his head that contributed greatly to his state of crazypants. In the last ep it was discovered that the drumming was actually real and the Doctor could hear it too - when they essentially pressed their heads together. It was kind of comical how well it fit. XD

I'm the other way around - I've owned How the Mind Works for absolutely ages but not got around to reading it, whereas the Language Instinct I pounced on immediately. My degree is in English Language Studies and it's definitely where my heart lies.

That is a totally awesome question, but one that I have a little difficulty with because I'm really not up on comic books at all. I've read very few, and mostly my knowledge comes from the films (I'M SO SORRY!) XD

I'm gonna go with Rumour from Umbrella Academy, though, 'cos I think Abby would adore the ability to start true rumours; not to mention that the costume (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ew7U77z42eo/Sd1gEMl-iEI/AAAAAAAAAN4/-h_aX0Evt2o/s400/rumor.jpg) would suit her down to the ground. >:D

Man, that's really difficult to answer.

One of the reasons that I love the pairings I do is because the characters are writ large, because they have really well-drawn characters that are recognisably themselves even outside of the situation we're familiar with. Much as I love Good Omens, to provide the opposite example, I've not really taken to AUs; partly because you can insert the characters into any role and make it canon, and partly because being an angel and a demon is so very intrinsic to the characters that without it they're not quite them. So I do love AUs with Stargate characters because - when it's got right - it's totally possible to envision these characters being essentially the same people in other situations; I also find it really interesting seeing how people explain their character quirks and backgrounds in the new AU setting.

On the other hand, I think that the Stargate universe provides a wealth of opportunities and is actually kind of under-used. Sometimes it seems like AUs are so popular because it's easier than thinking more deeply about the universe that was provided - and completely under-used by the show's writers, too.

I would say that I absolutely revel in AUs, think they're wonderful and rich, but when I read a canon fic that explores the Stargate universe in ways I couldn't have imagined it's treasured. So... mostly I prefer AUs, but the exceptional and mind-blowing fics are usually exceptional canon stories.

Also, FILMS ARE LOVE. The only thing I'll get all hung up on original source material vs. film about is if they ever make the live-action Cowboy Bebop movie (I hate it already).
