Mostly I'm trying to find out what the windows partition name is so that I can create a folder that maps to my windows hard drive.

My windows won't let me back up my files to disc, though, so I'm kind of leery of doing anything.

I don't think we have hipsters in this country. Mostly it's musicians - I kind of want a mac for the video editing software, but linux appeals to me in a way macs never have. Also, free! Free is good!

It'll depend on the file system of your Windows partition. If it's NTFS, your Linux install might have trouble recognising it.

Checked on the management console - so many new things I have learned today! - and apparently yeah, it's NTFS. :/

I was! In 1999. It was my second fandom. I was just uploading a bunch of really old fic to AO3 the other day and had flashbacks to my XF time. The TER/MA archive! Muldertorture! MSR! Shenanigans.


I switched to Linux at the behest of my ultra-geek brother, and also because I was starting to feel uncomfortable pirating Windows. Free stuff is great! Especially free stuff that makes you feel kind of awesome and like you're Part Of A Community. Kinda like fandom that way. I'm running Kubuntu Karmic right now. What are you looking at?

I'm glad to answer any questions you have. FYI, you can mount NTFS partitions in Linux. I'm just not at my home computer where I could look up the how-to right now.

At the moment I'm having problems in that whenever I try to do more than one thing at once, all various windows go grey and inaccessible for at least a couple of minutes and up to over 15 minutes. I am seriously ADD in my computer use so it's driving me absolutely batty. XD
