WAH HOW DO I HYDRATE?

:(

I am drinking everything in the world at the moment and I am so sick of just peeing a lot and having a headache. Yes, you needed to know that.

Are you drinking with food or just drinking? Food helps keep fluid in your body a bit longer than just drinking on an empty stomach. You can also get electrolyte mixes from the chemist, they help a little.

*makes note*

Thank you. :D I am drinking all the time, and probably eating more than I ought. Somehow I am bad at keeping to mealtimes when I'm used to a work routine. I get bored and I either make a cup of tea or find something to nibble. XD

If the pattern carries on you should go to a pharmacy and ask them to do a test to check you're not becoming diabetic. I don't want to worry you unncessarily but drinking a lot is a big warning sign.

It's mostly only a lot for me - I have a tendency to forget to drink at all, so when I say 'a lot' I mean 'more than a glass in a day'. That said it wouldn't be unprecedented, it does run in the family. :/

Drinking on an empty stomach IS fine, but picture an over-dried sponge - you know how you pour a whole bunch of water on it and most of it just runs off? If you've been making a habit of not drinking enough, most of it is going to go straight through you until your tissues get squishy and juicy enough to start retaining water. It takes time, but you'll get there.

A good way to avoid flooding your system is to try and have one glass of water every hour you're at work. Remember, tea can dehydrate, so it doesn't really count as a glass of water.

Dioralyte (honestly I have no idea how to spell it) can sort out headaches if they're caused by dehydration as it gives you the electrolytes you need to actually keep the water in your body. This is why fry-ups can help hangovers - it's the salt. If you have none of that then eat something salty and drink something sugary.

Are you sure it's dehydration? Have something salty, you might need the salt. Or, you might need caffeine, if you are used to drinking a certain amount.

Or, you might just need a nap?

I hate to have to second this one, but that was the big sign I had diabetes, when I was thirsty all the time and constantly drinking - the reason being, I was peeing all the time, and that was making me dehydrated. With diabetes the thirst is actually caused by the peeing, rather than the peeing being caused by the drinking.

Just keep an eye on it, yeah? Other symptoms would be eating lots of sugary things but losing weight, feeling tired or sick and feverish a lot, getting dizzy, sore eyes, that kind of thing. Although this is all from the perspective of type 1, type 2 isn't as extreme so I'm not sure if it'd be as easy to notice. If it keeps up definitely go to the doctor.

Babe, are you having any other symptoms? Are you really thirsty or just trying to hydrate?

Seconding the "go see a doctor!" sentiment if this keeps going on. D:

But this may help: Oral rehydration therapy (http://rehydrate.org/solutions/homemade.htm)

Oh noes!

What everyone else has said about electrolytes: if the mixes are too ghastly, eat a banana. (Potassium is an electrolyte!)
