[Poll #1591335]

(For the record I don't like my record, and I'm going to make efforts to change it if only so I can decide which books are worth keeping rather than carting around hundreds I haven't read...)

I spend a LOT of time at my local library- seriously, all the librarians know me by name. so I read new things due to the library. if I didn't have access to that, and had to choose between rereading my stuff or buying new stuff? then I'll just be over here, rereading Feet of Clay for the kajillionth time.

I only buy books I already know, though. I almost never go on Amazon or into a bookstore or whatever and say "oh this looks cool *BUYS*" I'd rather spend money on something I know for sure I will love and reread.

I have a few 'comfort' reads -- Jane Austen, Narnia series, Anne of Green Gables series, The Lord of the Rings, and some other random fantasy novels -- but mostly I read new books. It's pretty bad for my bank balance currently, and so I wish I re-read more of my old books!

I opted for the half and half, which doesn't sound that adventurous until you consider that I've lived long enough to have a whole MASS of favourite reads that I like to revisit. It's a very long list. Also now I'm getting a bit daffy, quite often I think it's a new book and am halfway through before I realise it isn't. Very confusing.

My record used to be a lot more skewed in favor of rereads, but when I started keeping track of my reads/booklogging, and also instituting some reading quotas for myself in terms of books by POC authors and nonfiction and stuff, I found myself reading a lot more that was new! Generally these days I try to limit myself to one or two long-series-rereads at a time and intersperse them among new books. (I also get a lot more recommendations these days so I am constantly scrambling to keep on top of my 'To Read' list, which helps . . . in a way.)
