Some things I have been reading recently, mostly linked by apiphile:

A response to the apology for the whole SGA story finders thing
A response to how discussions/reactions are undertaken in fandom (badly)
A post on reactions again.

I don't think people shouldn't get pissed off, and I don't think people shouldn't talk about why they're pissed off and where the fault lies and think about how it could maybe not happen again. I don't like people getting hurt, obviously, and I understand people reacting to hurt. It's the badge of honour outlook that I object to, the only explanation I can see for so many people piling on when someone has been Officially Designated - usually by BNFs - As Wrong; you must be seen to be disapproving of the things that Fandom Ought To Disapprove Of.

An interesting post by Del herself on this stuff, also. It made me uncomfortable, and that was good.

None of these arguments are without flaws, obviously, and none of these arguments I agree with entirely and without reservation, but they were things that I am glad that I have read and they have helped me get a little closer to working out what's been niggling at me about fandom of late.

Although some of it's just that I'm hella cantankerous right now.

Yeah, I really don't like the way fandom deals with people who are Wrong. (I don't want to post about it, though, because of the way fandom deals with people who are Wrong.)

I don't like the way that Fandom deals with people not just who are Wrong, but also who are Not Right In The Acceptable Way. I too am genuinely wary of posting about pretty much anything of importance, partly because I might be Wrong and partly because I might articulate myself badly and then not get a chance to support my opinion. I worry that creativity is getting stifled in favour of being Acceptably Inclusive, and that worries me in a kind of Big Brother way... XD
