I'm really not very good at this OK Cupid thing - I don't respond to messages for months and months, and when I get new messages I immediately tell one guy off for calling me 'baby' and threaten to kneecap another if he spoils me for BSG. XD

It's been a weird week. I've moved into a lady's house for a while, until I can afford/find/want a new flat; I was expecting to dislike it a lot more than this, but she's really nice and is treating me like a housemate, not a tenant. (Hee, add 'tenant' to 'villainy' in the 'NEEDS MOAR N!' stakes. Cannon needs less, obv). The only real problems I have with the set up is that my door doesn't close properly, and she has a tendency to walk in at random moments; I'm going to see about getting a doorstop so I can control my space a little more readily.

I have been absolutely abysmal about preparing for my job, though. Some of it was necessary packing/unpacking/exploring time, but a lot of it has just been because I'm unsure of what I have to do and a)my new department is not the best at responding to emails and b)I'm really bad at thinking through the questions I have to ask. I've got out of practice at the academic mindset, so mostly I'm just flailing at piles of paper and feeling tired. And then avoiding them and faffing mindlessly! Which is helpful! Once I get into the swing of it I will be fine - if stressed - but the lack of preparation now means it's going to be hella more difficult to do that. I'm hoping they give me a little lee-way and allow me to be a little disorganised to begin with. :/

Poot. I need to get back to the stage where I actually filled my days, rather than the place where I fill my days with stuff that's mostly avoiding the stuff I need to fill my days with...

ETA: HAHAHAHA I CLAIM THIS WORD! It's always reassuring when it's something common enough to have a word for it, no? XD

Why don't you politely ask her to knock before she comes in? Just say that it was always family rule at home that you had to knock before you went into someone's room and you'd appreciate the continuity.

She mostly does when the door's closed, it's just getting it to stay that way that's the problem.

Ah. Perhaps ask if the door could be fixed?

Not that I've been on the receiving end of that, but I'd find it far too forward. It is a shame that some people seem so unable to engage in sensible social discourse online. I've met a couple of interesting people on OKC but the numbers are so often drowned out by the dross.
