2. 20 facts about you
Dude, that field is WIDE OPEN. How to decide what to tell you about? Hmm. (Halfway through - it is very hard not to make this into a subtle self-criticism, but I'm doing my best!)
1. The words/phrases I am most likely to overuse are 'awesome', 'dude', 'totes, yo' and 'sweet as a nut, yo'. I am a freakin' embarrassment.
2. I like savoury things way more than sweet things, and am way more likely to overindulge on kettle chips than on chocolate.
3. In the past 10 years I have lived in Cardiff, Southampton, Bath, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Frome, Waterlooville, Southsea, Upminster and Sheffield. I have lived in 13 different houses. I am very tired of moving.
4. I have a degree in English Language Studies, a Post Graduate Certificate in Secondary English Education and am just about to start a Masters in Digital Library Management. I also have grade 5 in piano, grade 6 in drama and grade 1 in ballet. Aw yeah.
5. I am not a good cook.
6. My favourite music artist is Amon Tobin, who is an electronica artist who creates incredible soundscapes. I have seen him three times (but bought five tickets, I took my little sister twice) and spent unbelievable amounts of money on his discography. It was all worth it.
7. I cannot budget for shit. I'm working on it and getting better, definitely, but it's taking time and a lot of effort.
8. I have had two major relationships in my life, one of which was largely internet based. As a result of this I have very little experience of sex (and barely any that took place sober) and frankly I'm unimpressed so far.
9. Although I am very very hard on myself when introspective, I am very very good at making progress and improving myself, and I work very hard at it. The ability to see this as a positive rather than focusing on the flaws that make it necessary is a sign of good progress. *proud*
10. I have four piercings in each ear but they are not symmetrical. I also have a tattoo on my wrist (it means alone, but in a good way!) and am currently having another designed to go on my left arm, and have another planned.
11. I love nail varnish ridiculously, especially Barry M. After a massive clear out I have 21 at the moment, all of which are red, blue, green, purple or metallic. My oldest nail varnish is a glow in the dark one from the Smithsonian air and space museum which I bought at Millicon in 2005.
12. Relatedly, the only con I have ever been to was for a game I created, and I was treated like a bit of a celebrity. This may have spoiled me for conventions forever.
13. I got a D (heh) in my IT GCSE because I was too busy reading slash fanfiction to do the work. (To be fair, one of the other candidates got 11 A*s and a B in IT; the teaching in my school was notoriously shit). The slash was Mulder/Krycek and Krycek/Pendrell and a lot of it was pretty terrible.
14. I am 30! I like 30.
15. After many years of not particularly thinking about it, followed by a few years of soul searching, I am a decided atheist. ETA: a timely, relevant and massively resonant blog post by Apiphile: An Atheist on Religion. It's incredibly worth reading and articulates my thoughts far more clearly and eloquently than I could.
16. My favourite place in the world so far is Winchester Cathedral.
17. I have rheumatoid arthritis, a gluten intolerance and a basically useless right eye. I didn't want to be an astronaut until they told me my vision isn't good enough (frankly the idea of being in a place that will KILL YOU DEAD if machinery fails scares me a lot, but I am still utterly fascinated by the ocean).
18. My first name is a town in the holy lands and my surname is a river in England. My surname is also in the domesday book, and my mother's maiden name was also a town in England, making me the Englishest English ever to English. (BORING).
19. I like naval history and have favourite pirates. I went sailing on a wooden ship a couple of years ago and it was incredible, and I am sad I no longer live near the Victory.
20. My favourite art-related place is the room in Southampton art gallery where the Perseus Cycle by Edward Burne Jones hang. I can literally spend hours in there, looking at the process and the unfinished outlines and the brush-strokes and the unutterably perfect feet.
