Hi, pep talk please.

I'm being fucking ridiculous, and this essay is formative not summative and therefore doesn't actually matter, and I've done masters level writing before for my PGCE, and I could not be any more prepared, and I am not writing it because I feel like I'm going to throw up from nerves.

WTF.

Just write it, don't worry about quality. You can always edit and polish after but you have to have something TO edit and polish!

The first draft doesn't have to be good, it just has to exist. You can do this. You really, honestly can do this.

Maybe try dividing your paper up into small sections and rewarding yourself when you get each one done. Don't worry about the paper as a whole until you've finished; you can go back and edit later. Just work on one manageable part at a time and then let yourself relax a little before jumping back in. You can do this!

I hope you are feeling better about it by now sweets, but if you aren't, have you tried maybe saying "I will write things for just ten minutes. Ten minutes and then I can stop." and timing it ? And then if you actually want to stop at ten minutes, do, but you might find that just starting helps a lot.

Good luck honey. *hug*

I love this suggestion. Also, I know when I get stuck writing something I ask myself if I can manage 100 words. Just 100. I almost always know I can do that much. Then another hundred after that for good measure, and before I know it I have something worth redoing. But at least it's a good way to start.
