Suffering from a nasty rash of job rejections currently. The problem is that I have no library experience, and I can't afford to get a low-paid job that would get me the necessary experience. I mean, I get that I can't get straight back into the salary I was pulling in last year, I wouldn't expect to, but neither can I drop more than ten grand.

I need a Plan. Any ideas? :D

Sign up with a library recruitment agency. I did this last year and they've helped me find lots of temp work.

Yeah, I get that. Also its just hard to figure out how to get through from the applying to interview stage. I've been looking in the independent school job market since that was the job I had and I liked it, also I've found a great job agency but even then its hard. I know my resumes not the most normal but I just want a job. Sorry, I didn't mean to whine all over your journal, I know your pain.

I'm sorry, honey! You are entirely employable and capable, but I know how difficult it is to feel like that means anything, so... *HUGS*

(the only other thing I can think of is "join all the agencies you can for temp work, because a LOT of places now only take temps who then become perm if it works out", but someone already said that!)

Hah, and then I accidentally replied to the person who said it, rather than the post. Sorry, random friend of Nny!

Do your circumstances permit evening or weekend work on top of your main job for a while? It's not uncommon around here to have (mostly uni and legal libraries) looking for weekend or evening part timers, which I've seen used effectively to transition from one library sub-field to another. Similar idea, but pos easier to make flexible would be volunteering in a library context, either a volunteer-run community library, or running library services for a charity group?
