Hey kids

So I've had a weird couple of months. I screwed up my taxes, and the longer it went the more complicated completing them was. At the same time I had an decreasing sense of self-worth and a hugely rising anxiety level... and it took me this long to work out THE TWO WERE CONNECTED.

Long story short, I've now completed my tax return, I have a totally manageable bill to pay, and meantime I have sorted out my electricity tariff and set up direct debit for that and the water. So now I am able to convince myself that people care again, Snowflake!

Day 7

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Okay. The level of utter perfection in this small video is going to take me a little while to itemise.

This is (obviously) from a comic book film called the Losers, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans, to name a beautiful few. The comic book roots are really clear in some places, and the reflection of certain panels in the direction is gorgeous. Right at the beginning of this section there's a moment where Chris Evans walks behind a pillar and emerges singing - it all makes sense I swear - and the visual nod to the transition between panels is a thing of beauty. (The zoom through the OK sign is also a wonderful reflection of the book).

Second, it's hilarious. Chris Evans singing Journey! The angle of the dangle! Skippy! Tibetan Philosophy! This showcases the wonder that is Jensen, the comedic genius of Chris Evans - don't let the jaw fool you, watch What's My Number - and provides endless quotables. It also really beautifully showcases the sense of humour of Cougar, too. With careless viewing it's easy to see Cougar as both stoic and humourless, but the way he goes along with Jensen's joke here, plus the tiny smile at the end, shows that quiet waters run deep.

Third, the dangerous telekinetic stuff, which directly references another film Chris Evans is in - again, a recommendation - called Push, in which he plays, you've guessed it, a dangerous telekinetic. [personal profile] catwalksalone wrote a gorgeous crossover, Unquiet Ghosts, and you should read it. There's also the science experiment thing, which is amusing because Cap.

Finally, there's the whole Cougar/Jensen thing, which is one of the pairings of my soul. Jensen's completely pointless glances towards where he knows Cougar will be, Cougar's equally pointless hat-tip back at Jensen... the utter trust from Jensen that Cougar will be there, and the implication that he knows Cougs well enough to pick out exactly the spot he will have chosen. I love their relationship, and the way that fandom portrays it.

ALSO, HIS FREAKIN' WHITE T-SHIRT. THANK THE MANY AND VARIED DEITIES FOR THAT WHITE T-SHIRT.

Ugh, stupid taxes. I'm glad you are all sorted now.

ION: OMG JENSEEEEEEEEEEEN. Everything you said here because so many feelings. SO MANY. Also! The continued trust and knowing and the way Jensen looks up at that roof even though no way can he see Cougs. And the Petunias. And that's right, bitches, he has a crossbow and Cougar watching him crash and burn with Aisha and, don't touch the hat and Godzilla and and and their EVERYTHING. *flail*

PS Thank you! ❤️

That was fun! I've never seen the movie, though I know it's a fan favorite and people slash Cougar with...someone? We've now run up against the limits of what I know about The Losers.

I love Jensen/Cougar too, partly because the dynamic of the quiet character and the funny, mouth character, and because Cougar is so freaking beautiful. :D
