(no subject)
Oct. 20th, 2008 06:49 pmI have a lot to talk about, but I'm not sure entirely what to say.
I'm working really hard (even though the commute is kind of killing me to death); I'm teaching year 7s tomorrow, which'll certainly be interesting since I haven't been told what I'm actually teaching them, yet. The pupil I'm supporting has been suspended for five days, and I'm going to take on the Senior Leadership Team and argue his case, see what I can do to improve the state of his relationship with the school. I'm kind of pleased that I've organised this - I'm going with his tutor, because she's equally invested and fond of the lad - because it's something I would never have considered doing a couple of years ago.
Smaller and I had Bigger over at the weekend, which was a massive nostalgia trip - I'm not sure how to react to news of all the people I knew at University and how much their lives have developed. I'm not sure how much I have to be proud of and suspect it'd do me good to have a think about that.
I'd like to make a post squeaking about The Sentinel, which is awesome and ridiculous and huge amounts of fun to watch, but everyone else watched it about a hundred years ago. Also I feel like it's kind of a ridiculous subject to talk about when I've just read
rydra_wong's post about the tactics being used in the run-up to the American election and am feeling, as a result, faintly sick.
I'm also considering, on a more cheerful note, putting together some literacy materials for my student, with a view to maybe polishing them (depending on how he reacts to them) and making them publishable. The level of literacy among the 13 year olds I work with is kind of upsetting, but it's no wonder they have no real interest in learning to read when the materials available are aimed at eight and nine year olds. I don't imagine it'd make me much money at all, but it could be fun and I'm always looking to practice my writing. In that way where I mostly just avoid it like the plague and whine about how I can't do it, of course.
Anyway, I'm going to putter off and go back to watching Jim and Blair run around in the jungle. Hope you guys are having a good day. :)
