These ten fics are among my favourites ever. It's stories like these that make me want to retire my keyboard forever. *g* From a variety of fandoms, and by a variety of authors- thank you all, for making my day so many times over. =)
Harry Potter
Deus ex Machina by Silvia.
H/D, PG-13
Such a funny story, it literally had my crying with laughter. Draco decides that the best way to defeat Harry Potter is to write an epic poem. Yes, it really is that silly. Yes, you really should read it.
Draco mildly returned his gaze. "Have you ever considered that it's not always me putting everyone up to everything?
"No," Ron stated emphatically. "Because it is."
"Perhaps it's simply your irresistible cheery disposition."
"..."
"Maybe he's simply a small yellow flower, and you are the sun towards which he turns."
"..."
"There are no words that describe the depth of my hate for you," Ron said.
"Wait, can you repeat that? " Draco said excitedly, feeling about his pockets, "I'm going to write that one down."

No Pairing, PG-13
This is just a fantastic fic, with wonderfully described and though out magic, and really well-drawn characters. Snape, Sirius and Lupin are required to form an alliance.
I don't have the words to describe accurately how lovely this fic is. Go read!
The back door opened and someone walked inside. Snape turned his back to the fire and listened as footsteps followed the same way he had come towards the kitchen. A lean, dark shape appeared in the doorway, and Lupin lifted his head and smiled brilliantly. "Sirius!"
Snape closed his hand around his wand even as Dumbledore's voice repeated in his head, *No aggressive spells or charms will work inside the house.* He drew in a long breath through his nose as Lupin set his tea mug aside and moved forward. Lupin and Black clasped each other by the arm and shoulder, not quite an embrace.

No Pairing, G
A post-war angst-fest that makes me cry every single time I read it. It's so subtle- frequently sad stories feel manipulative, feel like the author is deliberately pushing you toward a certain feeling, but this fic is just beautiful and heartbreaking, and made me like Draco, which is rare.
"Do you know what they call us?" Draco asked. "I expect you do, you're out
in the world more often than I am -- "
"Call us?"
"Yes. Their name for us. Like the Boy who Lived. The Dark Lord. People
always have to /name/ things."
He could sense her surprise. "No, I didn't know we...had a name."
"They call us the Children. Because we're still only kids, don't you see.
The Children who fought Voldemort and won."
The Familiar by

Snarry, NC-17
This is another funny one, which manages to be humorous and sad and heartwarming all at once. Every character rings true to canon, and it's easy to believe the pairing as written here, and I find that quite rare with Snape/Harry. It so often doesn't seem likely. Harry accidentally gets turned into a frog.
Snape tipped a spoonful of hartstongue into the cauldron and stirred, counting under his breath, until the salve began to thicken.
"Fennel," the frog said.
Snape raised an eyebrow at it. "Only if you want the injured skin to grow back purple."

Snape/Lupin, NC-17
You thought I was going to let the opportunity to pimp my pairing of choice go, didn't you? Not a chance. This is an absolutely lovely Snupin story, in which Snape stays with Lupin during the transformation, trying to overcome his fear. It was probably the first to convert me to this pairing, in fact.
"Now if one of us has a legitimate reason to hold a grudge, I think it's me, Severus." Lupin's voice was soft, and his manner still perfectly amiable. "And when I came back to Hogwarts I had very nearly forgiven you for getting me sacked. I admit to the occasional second thought since then, but I am still willing to put it behind us. But you aren't. In fact you have treated my very presence here as a personal affront."
Snape let his lip curl into a familiar sneer. "Is it such a shock that I resent allowing a werewolf back into the school, and into the Order? Or that I prefer to keep my distance from a creature that nearly killed me once?"
Due South
With Six You Get Eggroll by
cesperanza
Fraser/Kowalski, NC-17
This story is fantastic- such a simple idea, executed so well (as all of her stories are.) The final episode of Due South gave a brief overview of futures for the characters, and Speranza has swapped them all around. Fantastic characterisation, OC's that didn't make me want to kill them, and all round a good story.
Suddenly there was a low, whining sound--an alarm, maybe--no, someone in pain--an animal--no, a child. One of the room's four doors opened and there was Constable Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, holding a small boy who was wailing like a fucking ambulance siren.
Fraser just stopped and stared at them. "Ray? Stella?"
Ray grinned helplessly; okay, yeah, this was weird, but it was just so good to see the guy. "Benny! I don't know what the hell's goin' on here, but you look great!" Which wasn't exactly the truth--what Fraser looked was exhausted, nearly as exhausted as the small blond boy who was weeping hysterically onto his flannel-covered shoulder.

Toad/OMC, NC-17
My God, an OMC I adore! This explores a little of Toad's history, and what he gets up to after the film. Anagram is a fantastic character, and Toad is well-written, and the best part of this is that Basingstoke doesn't attempt to "prettify" him. He's an ugly character, and that's how she writes him, but ugly can be interesting. Also you should check out the author's commentary recently posted in the journal noted above.
A: Actually, I dunno. Neil's girlfriend did something to Toad--or he did something to her, but I doubt that. She was always jumping on people, fucking them around, you know? But something happened one night and she left Neil and he left town. I think he went back home, wherever that was. I know he was a runaway too, but I don't think his folks were as nice as mine or Neil's. He looked authentic. Plus he was painted green. Did I tell you that?
E-P: Yep, he was green.
A: Fucking good bass player. Wish he'd stuck around.

Clark/Lex, NC-17
Another funny story, involving Clark asking Lex to see a (admit it) terrible film, The Lost Boys, and Lex taking his revenge... Requires knowledge of the film to really enjoy it, but there's tasty sex in there, too. *g*
Sighed. "What is it about me that makes people want to exploit me?"
Lex choked a little. "Oh, I don't know..."
"Fine, fine. I trust you. But if I wind up naked in public, I'm never taking you to another crappy movie again."
Lex snorted and put out his hand. "Deal."
They shook on it.
Lord of the Rings
Cabbages and Kings by Madelyn Scott
Merry/Pippin, NC-17
This is Merry and Pippin as they *should* be written. Sweet, and innocent, and Hobbit-like. No angst, just food and stories and snuggling. Pippin is jealous, and tells Merry a secret. A definite feelgood fic.
Merry had built Pippin a boat in it one flat, rainy afternoon when he was six, and, armed with ample provisions (being Merry's lunch that he had saved and a second one that he had stolen) they had sailed down the Brandywine, founded the Shire again, routed an invasion or two of orcs and dragons around the corner of the dresser, and excavated Bucklebury and Tuckborough near the foot of Pippin's bed by the time that the supper-bell sounded.

Crowley/Aziraphael, PG-13
A crossover with Neil Gaiman's "Murder Mysteries", which can be found in "Smoke and Mirrors", but it's not necessary to have read it to understand this fic. A little fic from before Crowley "sauntered vaguely downward" which helps you understand both Aziraphael and Crowley much better. It hints rather than states, and what it hints at is heartbreaking in the implications. I adore this fic.
Aziraphale brightened.
"But I don't really think of it as demotion," he said. "After all, I have been given a wonderful opportunity to work on Books. You know, I think it's going to be quite important. Nothing on the scale of Love or Inspiration, of course, but Books are going to be much more important than mere records of other things. They will become a part of History -- maybe you've heard of History? It's quite a new concept. Very important. I believe Books will play quite an instrumental part in it. They will transcend their original purpose."
"And," he added, "they'll look very nice when they're all lined up neatly, too."

Hope you find something to enjoy in there. *g*
