nnyRon noticed it first, because Harry was always cold.
Harry had never been cold. He was a furnace, alive and angry and always fighting and generating enough heat for all three of them when times were hard. But now Harry was cold, and hard, and seemed not to have any emotions of his own. He watched carefully, and stared glassily at them, and reflected what he saw in their eyes.
Snape noticed because the boy seemed to have given up, never rose to his insults, merely smiled that infuriating half-smile and hid behind Snape's reflection in his glasses.
Remus always looked a little harder at people, checking for the first signs of rejection. He was sure Harry's scar had always been in a different place.
Dumbledore pressed his hand against the mirror and sighed gently, breath clouding the cool glass.
"This was why I hid it from you, Harry." His eyes were tired, but he had lost all the tears he had to spare.

Date: 2004-06-23 05:54 pm (UTC)I noticed all the mirror references, words...but didn't *get* it right off. I would have had I read it a bit more and thought, but I was so curious, I read the comments. Yikes!!
It takes on a whole new . . .facet, I suppose, when read again, knowing what Harry has done. How very effective and superbly chilling! That Harry would choose to switch places with his reflection, live on with his parents' reflections, rather than face the world and his life. How very sad and depressing and disturbing.
I really love this. You have really done something here, in so few words...while drunk ;) hehehe
