15minuteficlets thing. I have no idea what it's about, really. Good Omens/Neverwhere crossover.
Incomplete
Gabriel walks through Heaven.
Such a simple sentence. It really doesn’t convey anything. Gabriel walks. Perhaps that would have more impact. White-feathered wings remain furled against his back, and that makes him almost unrecognisable, walking amongst the Blessed and not really noticing the way they back away from him, clear a path, and if he did perhaps he’d think it only right. Perhaps he wouldn’t.
He is thinking of spaces. Painful gaps in the ranks of angels. No one is replaced, because… perhaps God doesn’t feel the loss in the same way that he does. Perhaps the Creator believes that any copy would be inferior. Perhaps He fears that the same thing will happen again.
Ineffable.
One space in particular. One beatific smile. One look of polite imcomprehension when Gabriel professed doubt in anything. One flaming sword wielded a little too efficiently, a little too fervently, and the look on his face afterward. The look on His face afterward.
Islington didn’t Fall. He is still an angel, because he never questioned God.
The place he used to occupy is a little more empty because of it.
