15minuteficlets: Good Omens, PG, Brian/Wensleydale-ish
Practical
Heading out of the student halls, realising too late that there’s no reassuring jingle of a key in his pocket, no comfortable weight of a bag against his hip. No one in, ‘cos, hey, some people go to lectures, and make it there on time, too.
Red faced and panting, opening the door carefully and not quit managing to escape unnoticed, and a glare wouldn’t feel as crappy as the indulgent eye roll. He takes a seat next to Wensley, and genuinely doesn’t notice the disappointed faces of girls next to carefully empty seats.
“Wensley, you haven’t got your spare-?”
A jingle as keys land in front of him, even before he finishes asking.
“Cheers, Wensley. You’re so practical.” He doesn’t notice the hurt look, either. If he did, he wouldn’t understand it. Practical to him means… it means always having someone to count on. It means having someone to go to when everything’s falling apart. It means trust, and friendship, and someone you can talk to all night about your problems and go to sleep feeling better because they know just what to say. It means Wensley; he just doesn’t have the words to make that a good thing. It’s a good thing. It’s the most important thing he has.
