FUCK

I just wrote a story I was proud of. For the first time in fucking ages. And I saved it. And, like an idiot, I saved it to a disk and didn't back it up on my computer. And now the disk is fucked and I don't know why and I'm nearly crying because it was GOOD. And I NEVER like what I write.

Fuck.

Is there any way I can save this?

I am SO ANGRY at myself.

ETA: Sorted. I just wrote it again. Frustrating, but there ya go.

Define "fucked". Is the disk just not reading, or is the plastic shattered, the metal door gone, and the magnetic surface crumpled up in someone's jacket pocket?

There are some utilities that can try to recover floppies with errors.

http://www.freebyte.com/filediskutils/#datarecovery

http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?qt=floppy+recovery&tg=dl-2001&search.x=0&search.y=0&search=+Go%21+

Or google floppy recovery

Is there any other way that you can try the disk on another machine and see if you can, I don't know, email the file to yourself if it'll open from there?

*pets and offers tea* I did that once with a 70+ page story--got eaten by my computer. I'd been working on it for years. But a story is a story, and it always hurts when you lose it. That sucks.

*makes a suggestion* How about a gmail account for external storage/backing up? One of my friends did this after everything got wiped from her computer and passed the suggestion on.
