1) Not 'why Milliways', but why Aziraphale?
Initially? Because I was trying to beg Sophie to play. No lie. I was initially going to play Low Key from American Gods, but the character I thought would be most tempting for Sophie to play was Crowley (I'm surprisingly coherent when ridiculously drunk, it'd appear). As I remember it, she was making vaguely assenting noises, and then asked who I was going to play. And I said 'Aziraphael, naturally.' And there you have it.
I wish it was more well thought out than that, but that's how it happened. The similarities and the appropriateness have only become visible as I've played him- it's certainly taught me to appreciated the character more, and now I'm thoroughly in love.
2) What's your favourite poem? Post your favourite lines from it.
Actually, it changes. Daily. It really depends on my mood. I've had to change the original choice I made because my room is a state and I can't find the book I was going to refer to. Dang. If I find it I shall post, but in the meantime-
From 'The Poem That Took the Place of a Mountain' by Wallace Stevens
"It reminded him how he had needed
A place to go to in his own direction,
How he had recomposed the pines,
Shifted the rocks and picked his way among clouds,
For the outlook that would be right,
Where he would be complete in an unexplained completion"
3) What would you like to be remembered for, after your death?
This is the kind of question you're supposed to answer 'being a good and loved person' to, right? Bugger that. People can remember me as a curmudgeon with snakes, if they like- I want to be remembered for having written a book that changed people.
4) Three favourite teas, excluding any variations upon 'apple'.
But ALL MY TEA IS APPLE! Dang it. Okay. *thinks* #1. Redbush with vanilla, which is a new discovery and quite ridiculously divine, #2. Chai as made by my flatmate, who spends entirely too much money on cinammon and star anise and er... whatever the hell else is in there, and #3. Any tea, no matter how cheap and tesco value-y, that's brought to me when I'm in bed and sleepy.
5) Where would you live, if you could?
I haven't gone to nearly enough places to know. I've always liked the idea of Vancouver, but that's all it is- an idea. I have ridiculously small experience of the world. So... Milliways.
from
1. Road trip. Where? Who with? Why?
Amsterdam, with my friendslist, so we could investigate the sex shops and be loud and boisterous and have a Gay Old Time.
2. One pie-in-the-sky dream.
Making a living from writing novels that people will want to read.
3. Favorite breakfast.
MMmmmmmmmmmmaple and pecan crunch, from co-op. It's possibly the least healthy breakfast it is possible to indulge in, but DAMMIT it tastes good. Also necessary, a cup of tea. Failing that, a bacon sandwich with brown sauce.
4. If you could be hands-down qualified and signed on for any profession in the world, what would it be?
Paul Bettany's makeup person.
...what?!
5. What do you like best about yourself?
I like that really little things please me, and can make my day infinitely better. I guess to some extent that's really shallow - it's one of those things where you'd like to delude yourself that your misery is more important, somehow deeper than that, but... well it's like my dad. His mum died, and my mum said 'don't worry - he'll go and buy himself a couple of records and he'll be okay.'
My life hasn't been easy, for... longer than I care to remember. I don't make it easy for myself, a lot of the time. And I think that the fact I get ridiculous amounts of pleasure from someone giving me a bouncy ball, or a kinder egg toy, or writing me a letter... I think that's important, and has prevented me from doing something highly stupid.
And now I'm uncomfortable, so shall move on swiftly.

1. What song do you reckon is your theme song?
I don't know. The songs I like tend to be about how I'd like things to be, not how they actually are.
No, wait, I do know. My theme song is 'the pirates who don't do anything,' by Reliant K.
2. We meet. What do we do?
I think... I'd like to go to London with you, and look around Southwark cathedral, and the British Museum, and go to the Globe for a Shakespeare play, and feed the ducks the ends of our sandwiches, and I'd listen to you talk about Arthurian legends.
3. If you could assume the life of one character – original or otherwise – who would you be?
Predictable as it is, Aziraphael. *grins* Or possibly the Librarian.
4. A favourite fantasy/daydream from when you were a little girl.
Mermaid. Definitely mermaid. Swimming was by far my favourite thing to do, and I think it still would be if I weren't too self conscious to go.
5. Do you have a character type that occurs again and again? If so, what is it?
Does 'Callum Keith Rennie' count?
I don't think I'm the person to say that- it's probably something that would have to be noticed by people other than myself. I tend to have loner characters, but I think that just reflects my lack of relationship skills, even in a fictional forum.

1) A lot of people get upset when their favorite literary works are made into movies, and they don't feel the director did them justice. If money was no object and you were given complete creative control, is there a favorite book of yours that you would like to see on the big screen?
*grins* Hard Core Logo already is, and they did it hella well. I don't know- the books I love that could be made into films seem to already have been, and... I have this mental block about fixing things. I'm very against the idea of mapping Milliways, because I don't want it to be something I visualise in a specific way. I like fluidity, and that applies to how I visualise books, as well. Which, to be honest, I don't actually do that much. The words don't form a mental image, because the words are what I love. Some books that's not true- I could quite vividly picture Gaudy Night- but... well, I guess maybe it's something that will come as I see more of the world.
I suspect I made no sense at all there.
2) Do you like to travel?
I don't know. I like the idea of travelling, and I like the little I've done so far, but... well, there's a part of me that needs to know where the toilet is, ridiculous as that sounds. *giggles* It's certainly something I'd like to find out if I like, but I have never in my life been in a place where I've been able to afford to travel. I have been one place on my own, and yes. That was really lovely.
3) Is there something you must have on you at all times? (For me, it's chap stick.)
Um... I try to remember to have a pen and notepad, although a pen will do considering how full my pockets tend to be of old receipts and such. Also I love wearing baggy jeans because I can fit a book in the back pocket, which is... like a safety blanket. It means I don't have to talk to people.
*is bad person*
4) Does the inclusion of Robin Williams' name here baffle you as much as it does me?
It would make me ridiculously reluctant to see the film, because Johnny Depp/Robin Williams? Really doesn't do it for me. *grins* And. Aziraphael's ENGLISH, dammit. AndPaulBettany.
5) Is there a particular song or piece of music you've been listening to rather a lot lately?
Well I've recently put everything I have on a playlist, so my music is exceedingly random at the moment, but the songs I always rewind to play twice are 'I'm a Rover' by Great Big Sea, and 'Get Out of My Life' from Bounce.
I talk too much.

3. Why 'ygrane'?

5. What is something you believe in wholeheartedly?
Re: I'll bite.
Date: 2005-05-04 07:11 pm (UTC)2. I'm sure there's one more recent than this, but the one at the top of my mind is Amelie. It makes me happy and reminds me that the world really can be made a better place by one person's actions. I also really love Jean-Pierre Jeunet. His film are intriguing and a very real look at humanity even while in a surreal and twisted setting.
3. Ygrane is the name of one of my very first RP characters. She was a vampire in a Vampire the Masquerade LARP game. (Yes, I really am that big a dork. STFU) I'm also a bit of a King Arthur nut and Ygrane PenDragon was the mother of King Arthur and a really cool character in her own right. So, anyway, when I started needing online SNs, I used Ygrane because every variation of Gypsy was taken. Gypsy was my childhood nickname.
4. San Francisco if I have to stay in the US. Germany or the UK, if I don't. I'm actually pretty content with present time. It's a pretty good time to be a woman by comparison.
5. Change. It's my only certainty in life.
