Some advice for the road

nnyJust a letter I wrote to my little sister. :) I thought a couple of people might find it interesting, I dunno. Some of my thoughts on life.
Dear G,
How's it going, short stuff? I have begun this letter because I want to get clean and there's someone in my shower, dash it all, but I think it's about time I wrote to you in any case, since I am an Evil and Neglectful big sister. I shall be making you a CD this evening, which will no doubt come with a long explanation, because I get a bit overexcited and geeky about such things.
Something to remember, my sweet - getting overexcited and geeky about things is not a bad thing. It's not cool, certainly, but think for a moment. Would you rather be cool than happy? If something makes you happy, and causes no harm to anyone else, then ignore the negative things other people might say. No one else is going to work to make you happy, so you have to do it for yourself.
Another thing I've noticed; if you are happy, and if you are unashamed of the things you like, people respond well to that. Don't care about being cool, or not being cool - it's unimportant what other people, people that aren't your friends, think. Happiness is an attractive quality. So try to be happy, and do what you can to pass that happiness on to others, and ignore people like me who tell you Powerpets is rubbish. And people will like you for it.
The most important thing you can ever do is to think for yourself. There are a lot of things in the world that people will attempt to teach you, and some of the things will be important and valuable to you, and an awful lot of them will be utter bollocks. There is nothing, really, that you have to believe in, so think about what people tell you - if it works for you and makes sense to you then keep hold of it. If it doesn't, then look around for something that does.
Your brain is a place you're free to do what you like, so keep thinking. Write your stories, write in your livejournal, read books, and think.
Something to remember, and I know you're not going to like this one... remember that learning is not something that's restricted to school, and it's not something that has to be a trial. If you find something that interests you, then go and look into it. Keep an open mind about everything.
But, again, the thing to keep in mind is that you're doing it for yourself and not for anyone around you. It's easy to get caught up in what people want from you, or expect from you, but if it doesn't make you happy then it's not worth doing. So if you're going to read, if you're going to not-read, whatever, do it because you want to and not because I, or mum, or Miss Watts says you should.
I guess all this is pretty much just trying to say be yourself. Don't worry about what other people are thinking, because they're too busy worrying about what they're doing to pay attention to what you are.
You're a good person, G. I'm proud of you, I love you, I miss you, I'll see you soon, munchkin.
