Lately I've been dreaming in anime. It was the coolest thing ever. There was a book train with a canvas roof that kept going past rooms filled with red-robed menacing fingures, and then it shot off the end of the train tracks and the canvas roof unfolded into a kind of hang-glider arrangement, and there were police-style people with bows and arrows trying to shoot a woman who outflew them all and a man in huge armour who matched her speed with small darts... it was cracky and crazy and IMMENSE. I loved it.

On that note - I need more anime. Also manga.

I have princess mononoke (on loan), spirited away, and FAKE. That's it. FAKE is kinda enjoyable in that way that mills&boon is. A guilty pleasure that you are fully aware sucks royally, but that you sometimes need purely for the happy ending. Also, I love the way the kisses are drawn.

I have a tongue thing.

It should be noted that the gay porn I own does very little for me because good god the men are terrible kissers. Seriously. In fanfic I absolutely adore well-written kisses after good build-up, Crowley's tongue does weird things to me (not literally, unfortunately); I have a bit of an oral fixation.

But ANYWAY, back to the point. Any recommendations of anime or manga?

... Hur hur hur. Do you really want to ask ME? *is an anime fanatic* >D

Lessee... Kyou Kara Maou (anime) is gay cracky love. Tactics (anime and manga) is beautiful and well-made and shounen ai. Tokyo Babylon (manga) will rip your heart out and stomp on it in a really good way (again, shounen ai).

Why is it all my favourites at the moment are canon gay? I swear, it's not just because they're gay! REALLY!

... no one say anything.

What else? Yellow is graphic, very pretty, very awesome yaoi manga, but it hasn't been translated into English yet. Ee-to. Things like Hikaru no Go... you really have to have a taste for shounen. Same with Naruto. (Both manga and anime)

CLAMP Campus Defenders Duklyon is fairly short and fairly funny parody manga. Spiral is a pretty and very intriguing mystery-type anime, although some things don't get explained which can be a problem if you're the kind of person who gets bothered by that, but the first 4 volumes of the manga have been translated and explain in a bit more detail.

*is thinking through her own collection*

Mystical Detective Loki RAGNAROK is shiny crack. Norse gods in modern Japan! There's something a bit funny going on with it in that it's been with two publishers, and the english manga only has the rights to the SECOND set, which makes no sense if you start there (which I did), but the anime covers the books published by the first publisher pretty well, at least insofar as the introduction of characters is concerned.

King of Bandits Jing is an awesome anime, with a very likeable main character. There's not even any slashy hints in it and I'M recommending it, so clearly that says a lot! And I haven't read the manga, so I don't know how good it is.

Junguru Wa Itsumo Hare Nochi Guu (The Jungle Was Always Sunny, Then Came Guu) wins for sheer "WTF AHAHAHAHAHA" crack value.

I'll get back to you about Full Metal Alchemist (anime and manga, though they're very different to each other from what I've heard) once I've watched it, though I can already confirm that I like the characters. :D

Anyway, I'm done. I could probably go on longer, but I'll spare you. ^~

(Note that these are the ones I'm recommending sheerly on the basis of their own canon merit. There's other ones I'd recommend for a good fandom.)

Utena (especially the movie) is good for crack.

X/1999 is good for pretty and some really interesting characters and themes. I'd probably still rate it my favourite anime.

Yami no Matsuei is ridiculously sparkly and ridiculously gay.

Weiss Kreutz has some very good fanfiction...yeah, s'about it.

Cowboy Bebop is awesome. Hunt it down and watch it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is confusing as all fuck, but good.

Ooh, I forgot Spiral! Yes. Spiral is good. And I am way behind on all anime ever, dammit. Shivs, do you have FMA?

Er. I am not with the knowing Japanese names for anything. The full name of the series is Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna.

Ooh, I forgot Cowboy Bebop! YES, that anime is just... mind-blowingly good.

Eva is fucked up and weird in well-done way, so you should appreciate it, Nny. XD

X/1999 is, I think, on my list of anime/manga that are good for the fandom. I do love it- hell, why would I write so much for it otherwise?- and I ADORE the characters, but the people who argue against it do have some good points, the main one being that a lot of the characters don't receive proper development. Further, the manga isn't finished yet and the anime has a crappy end; and they both suck all joy and light from the world and make you believe that you will never be happy again, but y'know. I'd say that's actually one of it's best selling points. XD (X: THE FANDOM OF MASOCHISTS.)

Ditto what Fahye said on Yami and Weiss. I would also add that YamiMatsu is the one anime I know that can make rape look shatteringly pretty. Uh, and that goes for X/Tokyo Babylon (note that X is sort of a sequel to TB) and brutal murder. SO PRETTY WUT.

Haven't seen Utena, so don't ask me. *shrug*

No, I should have used its full name. I think the one you mentioned is a horror manga? Spiral, in full, is "Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna (bonds of logic)", and is mystery/detective.

*DIES LAUGHING*

Oh god, I shouldn't have asked. I adore you both.

Also... shounen ai? I have no idea what that means. I know nothing, please to be remembering.

Shounen ai, as a literal translation: BOY LOVE! :D The term yaoi has a more sexual connotation where shounen ai focusses more on the emotional side.

We love you too. *snuggle*

Uh, and shounen means "boy", so if I call something a shounen manga/anime it means one (oestensibly) aimed at boys. Of course we all know this is bullshit, because Hikaru no Go is awfully reminiscent of being hit in the face with a big gay otter. Naruto is much the same, only it's about ninjas and Hikago is about... well, Go. Which is a game.

Anyway, they're largely characterised by having a large male cast of characters, male main characters, a competitive element and some kind of major goal.

This icon is one of the characters from Naruto. *is very helpful~<3*

Shounen ai sounds definitely like what I want, then. I'm more of a romantic than on the look out for porn.

>.<

I'm such a girl...

*giggle* Me too. But some of the porn ones... well, it depends. Some of them are really pretty and tastefully done. It really depends on the plot, the artist, etc. I could send you volume 2 of Yellow, if you like? I scanlated it myself in a spree of altruism a while ago. XD

Hellsing should serve all your kissing and tongue-fetish needs! Alucard, the main character, keeps licking his tongue across his teeth and, GAH. Much with the weird things. (Play with his name and it should give you a clue as to what he is.) There's also a crazy Irish priest/assassin and wonderfully unrealistic bitchiness between the Catholic and Protestant church.

Gundam Wing because there's some good slash drawn by fans on ebay, and because Duo was my first fandom crush (before Wolverine, at the age of about five,) and now he's in Milliways.
