I was talking about dancing, earlier.

I like dancing, I just forget I like dancing because I'm frequently entirely too embarrassed to do it. And yet the strange thing is that although I feel far too self conscious, often, to dance among a crowd of people who are all up to the same thing, I can quite happily dance on top of scaffolding where everyone is almost guaranteed to see me.

Likewise, if I'm in a party situation, a room full of people I don't really know, I'll completely clam up. I don't converse well. And yet I can talk or type for hours if people are watching. Observe: livejournal.

Interaction versus display.

It's an observation, and that is all. I don't understand it. It made me go 'hunh', in fact.

If anyone has any insight, I'd be interested to hear.

I think it is easier to work it through livejournal because there is time delay and there is a kind of diconnect that llows ytou to concentrate ont hre words and only on the words, not on faces or anything else.

You're an attention addict, and you'll only do things that are embarrassing when they're beyond what everybody else is willing to do. Also, then nobody is comparing you to anybody else.

It's similar to the performing/presenting divide.

I mean - I enjoy acting. I have no problem getting up on a stage and performing a scene for an audience or being asked questions I know the answer to by someone else on said stage. However, I am terrified of public speaking, because it involves interaction with said audience.
