Abstain is a wonderful choice for a podfic, because the story - which is definitely one of my favourites - is so very based in talking. The summary is basically that Aliens Make Them Not Do It, a very simple but very well written idea that lends itself well to the format.
Mific has a wonderfully expressive voice. It took me a minute or two to get used to the accent - I imagine people have the same reaction to my readings - but she really manages to convey the emotions of the story, and follows the stage directions of the story well. On a couple of occasions there wasn't quite enough differentiation between the dialogue and the narration, and I found myself mentally stumbling for a moment as my mind adjusted, but there are mostly recognisable differences between the characters which reflect the snappishness of Rodney, the laid back character of John, and the officiousness of the constantly interrupting women of the planet they're on.
The reading was clear and well paced, loud enough to hear and smoothly edited; the explanatory notes weren't too detailed or intrusive, which I appreciated, although the ones at the end were perhaps a little jarring.
The open/exit music didn't really work for me; the difficulty with selecting these things is that it's definitely a matter of personal taste, and it's a song I don't much like and don't really think meshed with the story. However the intro and exit music was kept short enough that it didn't affect my enjoyment of the rest of the podfic, which really was a lot of fun to listen to.
