Jun. 3rd, 2006 05:36 pmJust went through my fanfic folders.
Just went from six folders to one.
Man that felt good.
I got rid of so much; tons of Snape/Lupin beginnings, some Oliver/Charlie, Lord of the Rings fic, the beginning of a Toad/Wolverine, a weird crossover of the X-files and Princess Bride, SO MUCH EMO RAMBLING OMG, an XF-8mm crossover, a due South - Calvin and Hobbes crossover, discworld ponderings (including plans for Rincewind as DADA teacher)... loads more, too.
It has proved that I can write. It has also proved that I can write better than I could. It has shown that sometimes I have good ideas, and sometimes I should not be allowed near a writing implement. It has reaffirmed the fact that I'm really not so interested in writing Harry Potter any more. It's made me feel infinitely less guilty about the things I should be finishing/writing, so maybe I can get on and do some actual writing.
Also, I did it in the garden, so it has got me a tan.

some Oliver/Charlie
Heeee, I wrote some of that. Mine sucked rather a lot.

Harry Potter may in fact be dead in terms of new ideas. Everything seems to have been done.

Re: Charlie/Oliver, I played them both on
And HP is just... it's too big, and too wanky, and I adore Remus still but have no particular desire to writing because he's just a manifestation of a type I can find elsewhere. Like Aziraphale.
HP doesn't keep me interested nearly so much as Good Omens does, although the fandom is starting to get a little bloated.

Date: 2006-06-03 07:04 pm (UTC)Hahahaha. Oh, man. Ship names never fail to amuse me. God knows what Titus Pullo/Lucius Vorenus would be. But Charlie/Oliver made a strange kind of sense to me way back when, at the Time of the First Film.
Oh, hell, it's wall-to-wall with wank and this is one of the reasons I don't get involved with fandoms full stop - always worried that it's going to turn into a distressing circle jerk of idiotic opinions and flaming and bad feeling. And really, no amount of Squidwarts fic is worth that. :) (also, most of my favourite books don't really have what you'd call proper fandoms) Remus is pretty much my entire reason for having anything to do with HP at all now - and, as you said, the world contains enough Aziraphales and Stephen Maturins to not really miss out too much by neglecting Lupin (although I have to admit that the werewolf thing is a nice edge).
I have found a home in the Band of Brothers fandom, which appears o have ONE slash community and ONE RPG, which I am studiously avoiding. It's perfect!
