John stopped dead and just looked at Rodney, one eyebrow raised for good measure.
"Well yes of course," and Rodney even managed to sound pissed off at him, like the insults were totally his fault - which, to Rodney, maybe they were. "I meant besides me, idiot."
"We don't all have your refreshing honesty, doctor."
"There's really no need to get pissy with me, Major, it was an honest question. I was merely hoping that someone apart from me was doing their part to hammer into your head the idea that your plans might just have one vital flaw, and that one vital flaw might be that you are, in fact, an idiot."
"You don't get this far up in the chain of command, McKay, by - " he trailed off and turned back to the path, resuming his trudge and holding a branch aside, manfully resisting the urge to let it smack Rodney in the face. That wasn't really an argument that was gonna hold a lot of water.
"Idiot Savant, perhaps. I should try to persuade Zelenka to do his bit; I'm almost certain you listen to him on occasion."
John grinned a little, just the corner of his mouth, and waited for him to pass before he let go of the branch.
"I listen to you, Rodney."
"I - oh." Rodney stopped walking and John passed him, still smirking, almost laughing when the footfalls restarted, hurrying a little to catch up. "You do?"
"Sure."
He got a whole five minutes silence, for that.
It was almost ironic. In that good way.

Date: 2006-09-02 11:15 pm (UTC)So far I've resisted SGA as a viable alternative to SG:1 because I was so sure that nothing could be better, only watching the occasional episode out of continuity, but now that they're cancelling SG:1 and 'Nny herself is writing fics about it...
Go on. Hit me. *rolls up sleeve and goes to search for the pilot*
But I STILL say give SG:1 a try.
