I love how defined their roles are, in certain situations.

Basically, Rodney has the 'Dun Dun DUUUUUUUUN!' role, while John's role is 'Da Da-Da DAAAAAA!'

Examples:

Rodney: Whatever is in that ship? It's not human.
(Dun Dun DUUUUUUUUUUN!)
Everyone: :O!


Carson: But he's missing, and presumed dead! How can we cope?
John: Who is missing and presumed dead?
(Da Da-Da DAAAAAAAAAAA!)
Rodney: YOU'RE ALIVE! OH PRAISE ALL THE GODS! About time you showed up.
Everyone: :D!
