For the record, something I want to say before it's no longer true:

I have been in fandom and a slasher for ten years, now. Been posting stories online for five. And it has been the most amazing ride.

If you're in fandom, how long's it been for you?

I arrived on the edges of LJ fandom about three years ago, started posting drabbles in Dark is Rising communities almost three years ago, and really settled in after you all invented Milliways. It's been fantastic, but sometimes I wonder what I'd do with my time if I didn't spend it on LJ and AIM talking about children's fantasy with all these wonderful people.

Wow, ten years. Discovered when I was 12 with the Sailor Moon fandom (shut up), discovered and then stepped away from slash after a few years in Gundam Wing and Clamp and scary, scary Gargoyles slasher ficcer stuff, and only posting stuff after getting into Milliways two years ago. Wow, I've been around a while.

Hrm. Outing myself as an old lady. ::cheeky grin::

I started APA-hacking for the Minas Tirith Evening Star back in 1972, when I was 14. Been working convention art shows since, um, 1975? Filk-writing and fic-writing and working con security since shortly after that. But I only learned of GO fandom in February of this year, and have been writing A/C on [livejournal.com profile] lower_tadfield since then ...

I got into GO fandom through [livejournal.com profile] bravecows' fic, and I have no idea what took me so long. I mean... it's not even subtext. Clearly I am teh blind.

I know what you mean! GO has been a favourite book of mine since it was first published, and as you say, it's not even subtext! Yet I didn't know about the online fandom for it, and I couldn't make the intuitive leap to their relationship by myself. (I've shipped a lot of couples over the years, but A/C is clearly my OTP, end of search.)

It was [livejournal.com profile] sff_corgi who told me about [livejournal.com profile] lower_tadfield and [livejournal.com profile] milliways for my birthday ... She had no idea what she was unleashing upon the world. ;]

a.) Get a notebook.
b.) Start writing out fulltext of stories that I liked.
c.) Insert myself in at relevant points. (As in: "They came down the stairs. AND BECCA CAME TOO.")
d.) PROFIT!

Um. Didn't post anything online until I was - sixteen, seventeen, though. So, four years.

Online-wise, seven years as of next Februaryish. I wrote my first fic some months before that, but (a) it was a different fandom and (b) I had the good sense not to post it anywhere.
Daria fandom was a good place to start, I think. Big enough to absorb the dreck, but also small enough that people offered to help me get better. XD

Thirty two years. Started young. You young whipper snappers don't know what it was like back in the old days. We could have any fandom we liked, as long as we only liked Kirk/Spock, and fanzines cost $35 each! And we had to walk through the snow with no shoes on to get them!

I do not know! It was on the fringes for I was still wee and for some reason, only thought anime could be online. I used to know one of the guys over in the...what was it called? Well, there was no Internet back in the dark days of my youth, but when I was 11 I wrote Mary Sue Star Wars fic which then led to a brief phase Romana-Dr. Who stories but was then trumped by an explosion of LotR Mary Sue fic written in runes. *facepalm*

But Internet fandom didn't start till 1998 when I stumbled upon X-Files fanfic. Mulder/Scully, baby. So only eight years for me.

*thinks* I first had a decent Internet connection in mid-1998 or so, which would put my start in fandom (Sailormoon, with USENET groups) around late 1998 or early 1999. First story was posted online late in 1999.

Fandom progression (based on stories written) would probably read as follows: Sailormoon --> Utena --> Harry Potter --> Dark Is Rising. You could throw Yes, Minister in there as well, since it's my other big-ticket fandom even if I've never really done proper fic for it.

Going on seven years now. Good heavens. ^_^

Started writing hurt/comfort Kirk/Spock when I was nine. Wrote my first explicit slash with Starsky/Hutch when I was 25; I thought I was the only person in the world who would consider anything like that, and that I was going to hell for it as soon as my ex-husband found out and killed me. Finally discovered fandom when I was 43, with Quantum Leap. This was when I found out that what I was writing was called 'fanfic' and that other people did the same thing. Finally published my first online fic in early 2002. I consume A/C, Snarry, and Snupin, but only produce Discworld fics.
