Okay, how do I write a personal statement? I mean, I thought I knew, but then someone mentioned someone about quoting things and I was like... bzuh? I mean, I still write personal statements the way I did when I was trying to get into college and that's just not gonna swing it for me. What do you think they want to hear? I've always just been page-splurgey, like on my journal but with bigger words, asking the vague question outline. How do I impress them?

Is this for a PGCE? My big cousin, the one who's in South Africa right now? She's got a place to do a PGCE when she gets back, so I could see if I could get a copy of her personal statement for you to look at, if would help?

as far as I'm aware it is like any other personal statement you have done... when I do these things I usually try to convey some of my personality in what I'm writing, I try to show the things that I am enthusiastic about and focus on my strengths... pretty standard really... maybe some people do quote, who knows, but really a statement is supposed to be reflective of you, so by all means put quotes it, but only if they *are* relevant to you and you *do* feel strongly about them... otherwise you are just being pretentious. Yes you are in competition with people but I honestly think you have a better chance if you're honest and real, because if not they'll rumble you at interview anyway. Nny, you're great, go sell yourself :)

You've got to be specific and keep focussed. No rambly tangents and the suchlike. Why you want do it, what experience you have in doing it, and what you'll bring to the college/university/place of learning/whathaveyou by doing it there.
