I am not at work today due to a small issue with walking.

I spent a lot of yesterday evening in bed, and my sister G came in and amused me herself by putting stuff on me. Not, like, heavy stuff, just stuff that I couldn't remove due to lack of bendy. There was a spoon that kept appearing around knee level, and there is just nothing more annoying than a spoon you can't get rid of. She said it was fun to watch me struggle.

*snickering*

Also watched the beginning of Martha, meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence which is an awful film, really quite stupendously dreadful and not even worth seeing through to the end just for Rufus Sewell. Very sad. I'm tempted to watch Wimbledon to sort of... counteract it. I mean, Wimbledon is, when you get down to it, equally dreadful, but Paul makes it worth sticking it out.

ETA: I feel forced to add, due to protests, that the fact that Wimbledon is a dreadful film does not in any way diminish my love for it. XD

I love Wimbledon. I don't think it's a bad movie. I think it's a cliched movie, but for the type of movie it is, that's a) expected and b) makes me feel warm inside.

*snuggles it*

I ALSO LOVE WIMBLEDON TERRIBLY MUCH. I love everything about it. And I'm not even a romantic-comedy kind of girl (or a sports fan, come to that). It just...hits the right buttons, I guess.

I love it too! That doesn't make it a good film, though. XD

I add to the chorus of protesting voices! Caleb's totally on the money; Wimbledon is a clichéd rom-com, as is practically inevitable in the genre in any case - but within the boundaries of what it is, I actually think it's pretty darn swell. Like, I would enjoy it even sans Paul Bettany (though admittedly, then I would not have had the impetus to give it a shot in the first place).

And the tennis sequences are awesome!

Ahhh, but just because you hate Kirsten Dunst doesn't make it a bad film.

'I hate Kirsten Dunst' does not a convincing argument for dreadful filmhood make, Nny darling.

It's just so...

*flails*

I'm feeling all cynical and grumpy lately, therefore the assertion of romance films that really, there is a happily ever after, and really relationships do work out with very little in the way of effort just rubs me up in entirely the wrong way, just now. It's not a problem with Wimbledon so much as it's a problem with the entire genre, and it's not a problem with the entire genre so much as it's a problem with me, currently. Give me a couple of weeks and I'll have shifted perspective entirley, but the way I'm feeling right now it's more likely to make me frustrated/angry/cry than it is to turn me goopy.

Have you not known me long enough to realise my opinions are rarely rational and shift with my moods? :D

YES. But I request an extension, since I'm not free 'til the 8th. On the plus side, excuse for MASSIVE RE-WATCH of BSG I was planning to do over the holidays. :D

Extension duly granted! Also, ew. *squirms at that icon* Papadama looks creepy.

I think I will rewatch S1 for the...sixth?...time. Yeah. I'll do that. I may have to stop on Colonial Day and watch it three times in a row, as I tend to do that.

I must confess that I have absolutely no sense of perspective on whether Wimbledon is good or bad. I've only seen it once, and the key plot point I came away with was: Wait, there was a plot?

I blame the tennis whites.

Really? Man. I am the only person in the universe who actually kind of likes Kirsten Dunst. Then again, I feel that Scarlett Johannsen, or however the fuck you spell it, ruins movies with her smug thespianism, so apparently I am like the Antichrist or something.

From: [identity profile] tropes.livejournal.com
I can't think of the last film I saw with Johanssen in it. But I also can't think of a film with Kirsten Dunst except for Bring It On in which she doesn't so much act as drawl out her lines with a cutesy self-aware smile. She's always herself, and never the person she's supposed to be playing.

Yargh.

Yeah, that's very true. Maybe it's just that the particular Dunst brand of cutesiness appeals to me.

(Also she owned both Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in Interview With the Vampire. Which is harder than it sounds, because that is actually one of the movies in which both are pre-batshit awesome.)

YES. I always forget that's her because it's the only time she disappears into a character for me. She's fantastic.
