I'm trying to work out which nuts I'm allergic to by process of elimination, only they really don't seem to be eliminating. I was really hoping it was walnuts but it looks like no, unless it's all nuts. Oh, god, that would suck. I seem to be okay with peanuts, though, thank whoever for small mercies.

(I'm not, like, majorly allergic. Just it gets hard to swallow, is all. And my ears and throat start itching on the inside, and my mouth tingles.)(ETA: Oh, and it makes tea buuuuuurn, apparently. Ow ow ow.)

I got told off for walking through the staff room, today. Possibly I should hang out in there more often so that people realise that I am, in fact, earning a wage there. Maybe the Principal will notice, too, and will start paying me something that actually resembles a wage! XD

When do I give up on my computer? It's been nearly two weeks now of daily phonecalls, six promises of delivery, emails, and various and sundry other things. Should I just give in and ask for a refund, at this point?

I want my compuuuuuteeeeer. D:

Peanuts aren't really nuts, they're legumes so that might be the reasons for the non-itchy factor. Could just be tree nuts? Maybe?

And no, no I haven't. I've apparently had my complaint passed on to senior management, though, and have been promised some form of compensation, they're just being inspecific as to what.

I know a lot of commercially processed nuts use nut oils in the processing (e.g., cashews processed with sunflower oil), so unless you're testing with whole nuts that you're shelling by hand, you might want to look real hard at the ingredients list just to make sure.

I only know the difference because I've got one friend who's allergic to peanuts, but not tree nuts and another who's allergic to tree nuts, but not peanuts.

Needless to say I'm always confusing them.

Next time you talk to someone take their name, and then ask to talk to their supervisor. Work your way up from there. This is just, it's crap what they're doing. Utter crap!

No ingredients on these - they were from some hippy health food shop place. I guess I'll experiment again more carefully with nuts from somewhere else.

If you reach the point of asking for a refund, use my advice above. Just bear in mind you could be waiting indefinitely with a company like Dell. And while they *might* take you up on it, that'll leave them with a computer that is to your spec, and no money. They *want* to get this computer to you.

The other people to get in contact with is their customer services department. You could consider writing a letter about your woes, and the number of times they've failed you, and how bitterly disappointed you were given their advertised excellent service. Yet you're still waiting because you still believe in them as a company to deliver you a computer that is customised for your needs better then anyone else... And see if they come up with anything (Goodies is the normal one). Yes, I was deliberately laying that one on thick. But I don't normally get this sort of problems with computer companies. Something to do with being a Computer Scientist and knowing what I'm talking about.

I'm sad that Dell have so seriously disappointed you/annoyed you/been crap. I've had nothing but good relations and experiences with them on this side of the pond. Then again, I'm working with the Small Business division, everything is still under Express Service warranty, and we have a corporate account with them. This is possibly why I get decent priority and two day turnarounds on my factory repairs, etc.

The only complaint I have is that some of their low-level phone tech support guys are less savvy than me. Fortunately, the products have tended to require little support, so it's a minor gripe at what is possibly a much larger problem.

As ricold advises, take names and escalate. Remember, in a very real way, they're working for you in this -- you have hired them, and they're screwing up. Be polite, firm and persistent!

Either a refund, or demand some sort of compensation for your bother. Because honestly, this is ridiculous. And if you can't yell at them yourself (I can't, I'm just like that), find somebody you know who can. Because they will.
