Questions from [livejournal.com profile] rymenhild.

1. What is Traders and why should I care?
Traders is a Canadian series and makes no bones about it, which has to be one of its charms. It's not trying to be anything it's not, and it's well-written and well acted, frequently bitingly funny, and has the most fantastic collection of characters. There's a large cast and everyone gets their moment in the spotlight; it's ridiculously easy to fall in love with all of them. Unrepentant and irrepressible slasher that I am, I still find myself rooting for the het 'ships on the show, and that's pretty rare for me.

The show's about merchant banking, no less, which is something that I never thought I could possibly develop an interest in. What makes the show is that it doesn't underestimate the audience's intelligence; truth to tell, frequently I haven't a chance of working out precisely what's going on - since I know nothing about stocks trading - but I can get enough of a gist to be bouncing up and down in my seat and biting the skin around my fingernails at the tension.

And then, of course, there's Grant Jansky, played by David Hewlett and possibly the most adorable character in television history. He manages to be the embodiment of happiness, concentrated woob, and the essence of comedy and tragedy simultaneously. And he's totally in an OT3 with Jack and Donald.

Basically, it wins purely for being pretty much the antithesis of 'my thing' and yet bringing me back over and over again. :D

2. Tell me about a good experience you had as a teacher.
Every day has a good experience, that's how I know this is for me. I love it when the students acknowledge me outside of classes and even in the street, stopping me for a chat and stuff. It's kind of cool to be part of the establishment and yet not despised. :D

*is sad*

One good thing, though, was when one of the English teachers - who is notoriously bad with learning support and generally makes things more difficult instead of less - gave me mark sheets and consulted with me over the marking of students' English coursework. That felt pretty good.

3. If you could pick up and go anywhere in the world, where would it be? For the purposes of this question, all considerations of finance and health get magically waved away.
Canada. I know it's not particularly off the wall or exciting, but I've been wanting to move to Canada since I was 13 and watching the X-files, watching Due South. I've always been entirely too heavily influenced by the television.

If you're talking a holiday, though, I'd really like to go to Japan. Go marvel at Tokyo and then wander off to find mountains. Mountains, Gandalf. That really appeals.

4. What's your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Port with tonic and a twist of lemon. Nothing else gives you quite the same warm, contented feeling. And generally no hangovers. Plus it goes well with dressing gowns.

5. Have you ever written original fiction? If so, describe one of your original characters.
My original characters are far too often clearly influenced by things I've read or seen. One I intend to write, that I've written bits for but haven't quite developed yet, is called Chris. He's a writer of rubbishy science fiction, something of an arsehole and aspiring cynic (although he never quite manages it), and looks like Dylan Moran. :D

And if anyone wants to ask me any questions, go right ahead. I have heard of this 'privacy' thing, but I have no truck with it.

Ooooh, more questions! Me!

And that clears up so much about Traders because I had no clue what show you were talking about all the time. It sounds really cute.
