"SEVERUS SNAPE: MAN BEHIND THE MASK

It's a rainy day in November [Hilda Hadget writes], and I'm sitting in the Hog's Head waiting to meet Severus Snape. I must confess I'm a little nervous.

Snape, frontman of rock sensation the Death Eaters, is notorious for his short temper, formidable intelligence, and intense hatred of the trappings of fame- and, by extension, interviews and journalists.

So how come he's agreed to this? Frankly, WME HQ has absolutely no idea what has prompted this abrupt decision to give one interview (and *only* one- WORLD EXCLUSIVE, people), but we weren't going to let the oppurtunity to question the most sought after man in rock slip through our fingers. Which is why I've been waiting in a draught for half an hour, my apprehension building with every minute.

Finally, almost an hour late, the door is abruptly flung open and Snape enters, dripping wet and scowling in my direction... perhaps not the most auspicious start.

The energy he's famed for bringing to DE's live performances shows in his every movement, as does the anger that is evident in their lyrics (see pg 19). He's wearing leather trousers (of course), a black donkey jacket, and the old school scarf that has become something of an icon after its (barely modesty saving) appearance on the inside sleeve of DE's debut, "The Gloaming".

Since we've only been premitted this afternoon for the interview and photoshoot, out makeup lady rushes forward, but he impatiently waves her away, scraping his dripping hair behind his ears and fixing his unsettlingly intent gaze on this journalist.

"Well?"

And we've begun.

WME: Severus. May I call you Severus?

SS: No.

WME: Okay... Snape. How and when did the Death Eaters form?

SS: Malfoy and I were aware of eachothers' presence at school, then were re-introduced by [DE producer, Tom] Riddle at a party. McNair and Avery had been playing together since childhood and were already working for Riddle, and he brought the four of us together.

WME: And Peter? [Pettigrew, notoriously always at odds with Snape]

SS: Wormtail? He was part of another band, the Marauders- they played some local gigs, nothing particularly large-scale- Riddle thought he had talent for some unfathomable reason, and signed him.

WME: You disagreed with his choice?

SS: Yes.

WME: Why?

SS: Because Peter Pettigrew is a whining little rodent with no discernable talent apart from a questionable sense of rhythm, and the personality of a damp rag.

WME [moving swiftly on...]: Whose idea was it for the band to wear masks onstage?

SS: Riddle's.

WME: And what was the reasoning behind it?

SS: Something about purity, dedication... you'd have to ask him. I wasn't really interested.

WME: And the matching tattoos? Were they his idea as well?

SS: (looks at left forearm) Yes.

WME: Does it concern you that several fans are copying this trend- jumping on the Death Eater bandwagon?

SS: Riddle believes it to be good publicity. Personally, I regret getting the Dark Mark in the first place.

WME: About your fans... You have been voted "sexiest new band" in the WME awards (Snape snorts, sounding disgusted). How do you feel about that?

SS: I was never interested in adolescents, even when I had the misfortune to *be* one. Lucius will, no doubt, be delighted.

WME: You prefer older women?

SS: Older? Yes. Women?

MORE NEXT WEEK!"

I adore this. I worship this. I want to take it home and feed it chocolate.

Make it grow!
