Jun. 20th, 2007 09:24 amHunh. LJ is having another permanent account sale. With a little creative monetary juggling I could probably afford it, this time, but to be honest I really don't want to. Because surely once you have a permanent account you're kind of taken out of the running as far as getting your voice heard goes?
After the wholestrikeout issue there were a lot of people vowing not to spend money on accounts and extras and the like, which I think is a valid form of protest. Personally I think that the whole problem here was one of miscommunication and the speed with which the internet moves, and I think that the apologies made - although late - were well meant. I won't be holding it against LJ, as such, but I will certainly be wary in the future.
I'm not worried about the fact that over time I will be spending more money, in theory*; I expect to pay for services, and I will be fine about paying for services as long as they are providing what I want. So long as livejournal behaves in a way that I support and that works for me, I will be happy about giving them money, and for the most part that's true of what they've done. Not always, no, but I managed to fuck up and hurt people when I was helping to run a community of a thousand odd members so I'm really not going to take something as big as livejournal to task for the occasional screw up, even so monumental a one as recently happened.
Things change, though, and it's possible - even probable - that the ways of this place will change, quite possibly for the worse, and if that happens I want to be able to say, in my own small way, I don't agree with this. A way that means I don't have to entirely abandon a place that's given me a lot of good years in order to make a point.
I'm sorry but that just happens to be the way that I feel about it. What do you think? [/Daniel]**
* This point would hold more water if I had actually paid for my account more than, like, twice. *blushes* Thank you.
** heh, okay, I've totally watched Window of Opportunity too many times. Shut it. XD
After the whole
