nnyHigh point of my day today was bonjela. Life has just got reeeeally depressing, of late.
Oh, oh, and! And William Dampier is Rodney! Or Rodney is William Dampier!

"At the islands, they were able to replenish their supplies, though improvidently they did not salt any, or use the fresh food to preserve their stock on board. Dampier disapproved strongly: he dreaded their running out of food before the end of the voyage, and saw that this was a risk they did not need to run. He made his opinion clear, and, knowing that he was right, did not bother to express it tactfully. Dampier was never a man to compromise his views to make himself popular... Not long afterwards, their remaining supply of food ran out. There was then a disagreement about what to do next: Dampier was for making directly for Jamaica...Dampier managed to persuade some over to his view, but not enough to sway the decision away from the South Keys. 'I was so much dissatisfied, that I turned into my cabin, and told them we should all be starved.'"

There is little doubt that at some point I'll write some oddment or other about Rodney McKay, natural scientist, and the aggravatingly roguish captain he sails with.
