Dec. 30th, 2007 03:37 pmI'm falling a little bit in love with Chicago, it has to be said, and it's not just for the snow. It's not just for Meg and J, either, although they are absolutely delightful company and I'm going to miss them so damned much when I leave. The city is strange and eclectic and worn and comfortable, and weirdly beautiful in places. And it doesn't tend to be somewhere that I am, but instead it's somewhere I can see through windows or between buildings from the train. And it feels rather as though I could continue getting that forever, too, which is just lovely. It's not as beautiful as Bath but Bath is a small bubble of unreality even in England, and I think I need somewhere a little more real.
It's funny - last night we went to an English pub and today I lived up to cultural stereotyping and bought books and tea which is no great surprise. And people genuinely keep looking at me funny when they hear me speak; and it's not always because I'm talking loudly about blow jobs, either. But I like it here, I feel at home kinda, here, and a lot of that is the loveliness of hanging out with two people that I've known forever and never met before now. We just watched McKay and Mrs Miller and all attempted to imitate JFlan's muppet laugh and it was seriously glorious. I'm really happy and it's awesome. And I'm very eloquent today apparently - apologies for the repetitive sentence structure. Blame David Hewlett's cuteness for my lack of brain. :D
