Lincoln is a gorgeous city with lots of history - the cathedral on top of the hill in the centre of town and the old-fashioned Christmas fair are two things I remember the most about it - my dad used to live there a few years ago. The University is near the quay and there's lots of boats and swans.
I've only ever been through Coventry on the coach to Oxford - it looked a bit dismal but that was through a window!
I went to uni in Durham so I lived there for three years - it's a lovely little city, the river runs right through the centre, they've got a 1000 year old castle and cathedral, cobbled streets and houses right out of Corronation Street!
Coventry I've only been through, but Durham is lovely. Very pretty - very northern, lots of cold wind and steep hills and grey stone. The uni is a big focus so quite nerdy. :)
Hill. Yes. Most decidedly HILL. Also? *windy* hill. Very, very windy hill. ::brrrr:: (Tho' I suppose that might have been the time of year. All three visits. ::brrrr::)
Durham is a gorgeous city, but I personally could never live there- it's just so tiny. Uh, it's really close to Newcastle though, which is a plus in my book? *g*
Never been to any of these cities (I'm a Southerner, dahling), but I've always heard great stuff about Durham, rather than t'other two. Go to Durham! Yis.
I've only been to lincoln but i agree with copperbadge - the hill is VERY STEEP, but that's not such a bad thing. (There used to be a great place on the very steep road that sold nothing but incredible pies. but this was years ago. mind you, it's probably still there. it was that kind of place.)
lincoln is old like york or bath is old. v lovely. don't know what the housing arrangement would be like - i'm guessing there are V EXPENSIVE nice bits, and cheaper not so nice bits. but then where i am right now is the same, and we still managed to live somewhere that i actually really like.
