Well, I've emailed my uni tutor asking who I need to talk to about deadline extensions, which I am going to do my best to view as a Positive Coping Strategy and not a complete and utter failure on my part. At least I'm acknowledging and talking about my problems with this whole thing right now, and the Uni are aware that I'm screwing up having difficulty, rather than me just slamming out an essay in the last 6 hours in hopes it'll do. <--- Undergrad. Progress, right?

God, I need more tea.

ETA: I'm being organised about this, by the way - there're no deadlines for a month or so yet, it's just the access to the school I'm supposed to be doing the research in that is the problem. I messed up last month and I have to fix it before April, so I'm okay for the moment. Workwise.

Asking about potential extensions a month ahead of time because of problems with your research access is totally a positive coping strategy, and is the kind of thing that most professors I know would be actively impressed by, not disappointed. It shows that you're working on this now, that you're thinking ahead, and that you're trying to make their jobs easier as well as your own by staying in close communications and figuring out your options in plenty of time.

Instead of, as you say, slamming out an essay in the last six hours in hopes it'll do. (Which heaven knows is what I always did in undergrad, too. La la la.)
