I'm gonna link to a seriously distressing site, here, about Attachment Therapy, which is also known as Holding Therapy or Rage-reduction. It distressed me to read about this but I think it's important to share the link for the benefit of people who have survived the therapy - because a lot of people didn't.

I wish I could say something meaningful, here, but all I can say really is that people should know about it. And I'd appreciate you sharing the link, if you click through.

I've heard of this before, under the name "rebirthing". Partly because it's supposed to simulate birth, but I think that name is also supposed to make the pain and humiliation of it seem more acceptable, because of how birth is a painful, undignified, messy process.

...The name doesn't make it seem any better, in my opinion.

I've heard it called rebirthing too. And I fucking thank my lucky stars that I had somebody to go to, because I know that was talked about as a potential therapy for me. And my nine year old brother *shivers*

I first heard about this as 'rebirthing' as well, in a CSI episode where a boy dies because of it. I still can't believe anybody could think doing that to a kid - hell anybody - was a good idea. It makes me feel sick.
