Sometimes John wished he'd been freaky good with languages instead of math. For one thing, he'd know more synonyms for freaky and that would have really come in handy in the Pegasus Galaxy.

For another, well. He needed a word for Rodney. Something that could describe what Rodney was really like to people who didn't know him. Something that meant "okay, yeah, he's yelling and waving his arms around and insulting your leaders and coveting your Ancient artifacts but really he's harmless please-don't-shoot" as well as "yeah, McKay's an asshole but he's going to save your life a dozen times in your first month and those of us who've been here a while pretty much owe him our firstborns, so learn to love the mockery" and maybe even "the guy who somehow edged out my favorite puddlejumper as my best friend."

That could be too much heavy lifting for one word to do, though. John was pretty sure that no language anywhere in any galaxy had a word that could mean all that.
