I'm going to be very much away from my computer today because I have exceedingly important things to be doing, but I would really appreciate assistance with something while I'm away.
I would like opinions as to what would be on High-Fidelity-music-snob Rodney McKay's playlist.
If you want to add justifications, that too would be awesome; if you want to upload the song for me it's entirely possible I'll love you forever.
And if you want to direct anyone else who might have an opinion (or want some free music) this way, that would be likewise fabulous.
(Oh, and if you want to add songs for music-snob-Zelenka or non-music-snob-John, or what are blatantly the WORST SONGS IN EXISTENCE, that would also be greatly appreciated.)
Thank you!

Date: 2008-03-19 03:31 pm (UTC)Anyway: I think Jonathan Coulton's "Still Alive" makes a perfect song choice for a scientist/music snob.

(Warning: Contains spoilers for the game "Portal"!)
Or any kind of IDM: Something by Boards of Canada (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO6i9YPtEd8) or Autechre (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfwD05XA2YQ) could fit.

Date: 2008-03-19 12:41 pm (UTC)I like to think Rodney has a deep loathing for "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" by Crash Test Dummies, because, GOD, what is that? Is the frontman actually incapable of producing vowels? Have his vocal chords mysteriously de-evolved to the point where he can't even speak like a normal human being? Likewise, Rodney has this...rage tick that John likes to incite whenever he possibly can by mentioning Jessica Simpson's remake of "These Boots Were Made for Walking" - normally, Rodney would be pretty okay with a big breasted blonde prancing around on his television screen in next to nothing, but the gross and obvious mainstreaming of a good song was just too much, even for him.
We won't even mention any of the American Idol craze songs for fear of Rodney having an allergic reaction and keeling over.
Regarding good music, I bet Rodney totally rhapsodizes about Radiohead's genius. He swoons at the mere mention of "Paranoid Android (http://www.mediafire.com/?mjjvxiecxyv)" and will actually watch Romeo + Juliet - despite Radek's comments about culture coming ten years too late - just to hear "Talk Show Host (http://www.mediafire.com/?1y4i0btndvj)" in the background. John just likes to rile him up with things like, "In Rainbows devalues music for the young generation," and, "Thom Yorke is a nut job and also his laugh is stupid." Rodney absolutely has a crush on Thom Yorke.
John seems like he'd love Neko Case (she has some country elements, but nothing bluegrass or so twangy John's head would fall off just to keep from hearing it - more smoky than anything: "Runnin' Out of Fools (http://www.mediafire.com/?jjm1zv0d4yc)") and Weezer (just imagining him listening to "Undone (The Sweater Song) (http://www.mediafire.com/?jwbfgmgia2d)" and bobbing his head slowly is kind of beautiful all on its own) and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club ("Shuffle Your Feet (http://www.mediafire.com/?xv3he91slzm)" is so perfect for him it almost hurts). I bet he totally gets a kick out of BRMC's name, too. Marlon Brando! No way!
This got really long. Erm.

Date: 2008-03-19 03:01 pm (UTC)Uh, I don't know, I'm not good at telling good music apart from snobby-good music. But I bet John likes, like, Cobra Starship, just for snakes On a Plane, and Rodney is all derisive about pop punk.
Oh, oh, and maybe Rodney's all smug about liking foreign artists that nobody's heard of like Morgan and Hera?

Date: 2008-03-20 02:05 pm (UTC)There is not a universe in existence in which John Sheppard does not love Led Zeppelin (Black Dog (http://www.box.net/shared/el7d18koo0)). Tru fax. And because I support the Neko case theory so much, have another song: Knock Loud (http://www.box.net/shared/cncy6tbksw)
I would also like to take this moment to go on record that I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS FIC!!!! IT SOUNDS SO TOTALLY AWESOME!!
