One of them had to care. "What the hell did you have to go and do that for? The last thing I said to you before you left the base was a warning about that stupid modification, and then you - "
John was slumped forward, exhaustion bolded and underlined by the line of his shoulders, by the way he seemed to take care over every breath. Rodney was going to have to call Carson again, get him to check for broken ribs.
"Wrecked the car, I know, McKay."
"Almost got yourself killed," Rodney corrected, and even though John probably broke something turning to look up at him, and the decent thing to do would be to meet his eyes, Rodney turned and busied himself with wringing out the washcloth.
Now was not the damned time for that conversation.
