Apr. 15th, 2008 08:02 pmI was getting all grumpy and then I realised that the only reason I want to get laid right now is because I want someone to experience the awesomeness that is my pants.
:D!
I'd do something productive tonight only I'm reading the Lioness books by Tamora Pierce, and therefore have regressed to the age of 13/14; ergo, any fic I wrote tonight would be absolutely dreadful Mulder/Krycek which would have awful characterisations that had been skewed by far too long spent reading fic by someone called Aries in which they called each other by their first names (yes, Mulder too) and set up house together. I'm going to spare the world that. I'm so glad I got that part out of the way before I got onto livejournal, seriously. Going through the archives here will only get you rather embarrassingly angsty Snape/Lupin, exceedingly short (and vanilla) Aziraphale/Crowley, and not nearly enough John/Rodney.
We will not mention the squickfest. XD
Where did you guys come from, fandomwise?
I should make a list of all the pairings I've written, someday - it'd make for interesting and worrying reading, especially if I included
milliways_bar in there. Meantime, I'm gonna go fret over Thom some more.

Date: 2008-04-15 07:17 pm (UTC)Also, I adore the Tortall books, by Pierce. They're my 'quick, I need something to read for twenty minutes!' books, every one :)
Oh, um, there were questions, sorry. I was distracted by your offer of pants.
I'm a Joss-girl. Fell into Buffy at the end of s5, spread to Angel when it started and stayed there pretty much exclusively until I hit SGA. I am monogamous, mostly. Well, there was a brief detour into HP where I wrote something I really am proud of, even if it's unfinished, but that was for less than a year and SGA? So. Much. Better :)

Have you read the immortals books? With Daine and folk? Numair and Rikash are AWESOME and should not be missed.

Date: 2008-04-15 07:22 pm (UTC)I've only read the lioness quartet and the immortals quartet, and without question my favourite character is Rikash Moonsword. SUCH A BITCH.
*loves him*
I also used to have such a crush on Gainel, the dream god.
I'm monogamous, usually, but there're a couple that seem to endure - Good Omens and Due South tend to pop up here and there within other fandom alliegances.
SGA is without question my best fandom experience so far, though, and contains the fic I'm most proud of. My body of work is sad, though, I really need to get working on more. XD

Date: 2008-04-15 07:24 pm (UTC)(Rereading the early meetings with George is a bit hilarious in the amount of casual murder the book implies that he must have been involved in. I think if Alanna met him for the first time as a new knight, she might be a little more cautious than she was as a overawed, innocent preteen. Not that I wouldn't be on that story in an INSTANT.)

Date: 2008-04-15 07:26 pm (UTC)Pierce has layers, if you look for them.
I recommend Trickster series more than the Lady Knight books, but both are really good. She's starting to draw different characters and make things more complex, which is nice. Not that it wasn't before :)

Date: 2008-04-15 07:31 pm (UTC)I'm bad with layers. I'm about as deep as a mirror. XD
I shall definitely check out more Pierce, though; she and Diana Wynne Jones were my absolute author crushes when I was younger and have stood the test of time admirably.

Date: 2008-04-15 07:32 pm (UTC)I started out in fantasy when I was 11 with Mercedes Lackey, but have seemed to miss a huge chunk of the teen authors as I got older...and hey in my second to last year of college I need things I can read quickly for escapism.

Date: 2008-04-15 07:35 pm (UTC)I love things I can read quickly though, absolutely - I've plowed through 6 books in two days, and I've been all sociable as well. Not to mention my usual fanfic reading habits on top. :D
I've never read Mercedes Lackey. I don't think I've ever seen any in the library - is it an American phenomenon?

Date: 2008-04-15 07:42 pm (UTC)Heh heh heh...my first proper fandom was definitely the anime series Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon, back in the days when tracking down subtitled anime required time and effort and VHS tapes. Ah, the heady days of USENET....
From there, I sort of springboarded from various anime fandoms into books with the Crossover Monstrosity. ^_^

Date: 2008-04-15 07:44 pm (UTC)Although she is pretty free with the casual sex-before-marriage thing, which I remembered being surprised about back in middle school, when I first read them.
Mercedes Lackey is an american author, yes. She has an incredibly sprawling series (or four, god, I can't remember) and while she is not a bad author, she doesn't stand the test of time so well. She does a lot of fantasy-cum-romance novel, but heavier on the romance angle (stylistically as well as pairing everybody up). She's more adult than Pierce -- more complicated as well as actual mentions of sex and torture and the like -- and I would be lying if I said I didn't own most of her Valdemar series and reread it on occasion.
But Pierce is better :)
